Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I got in the mini, turned ignition, lights came on, radio came on, starter motor........ nothing! I could still hear the solenoids firing and with the help of two random guys I managed to bump start the old girl and got her home. We deducted (with the help of a "full diagnostic" from sewards) that the problem had something to do with a relay going to the starter motor. So this week we replaced the multi function starter relay, which is a miracle in itself to say the least, as a part like this for a 1.3i cooper is like bloomin' gold dust, and hazzarre it worked..... well it worked for 3 goes then on the forth attempt ( at the petrol garage) it conked out again. Upon opening the relay module we found that it had burnt out. Any ideas?!?!?!?! I know that sewards tried to use the part from a 1.1 but said that it didn't work... I'm not sure if that was a "didn't work at all" or a "worked for a while then burnt out and then didn't work" I was wondering if there was something overloading it or maybe I've been working too near the exhaust pipe again!!
Any clues would be handy, otherwise it's off to the sparky and another monster bill!

Ta.

Suggest you find out what current the solenoid needs (probably around 40A) and then get a suitably rated contactor.

if you give tim at mini mail a ring he does a box of tricks that replaces the engine function relay.

he got so sick of them failing in the mighty minis.

the metro one is different, ive got a box full of them from when we where doing mightys and thought they where the same (the part number isnt the same)
