BMW MINI Garage Scrappage Scheme
Discussion
Hi all,

It seems the BMW garages are advertising their scrappage scheme with classic minis!
Admittedly I saw this on facebook.
"I have spoken to BMW who are as surprised as us, and they are looking into the situation and will get back to me.
This is not BMW's fault, so don't blame them, it is the choice of the dealership, so vent your frustration to them personally.

If anyone is so stupid as to trade in a Classic Mini for only £2000 they have only themselves to balme. Of course, the dealer won't take the Gov'ts £1000, but will sell the 'trade-in' on for a nice healthy profit.
It's nothing to bother any of us who know what our cars values are. I guess you can't balme the dealer for trying, after all he's got a living to make and 'times are 'ard'.

Except they have to get the car crushed and get a certificate to claim their money back. It's nothing to bother any of us who know what our cars values are. I guess you can't balme the dealer for trying, after all he's got a living to make and 'times are 'ard'.
If you were a dealer who had paid out £2000 for a Mini worth between £4000 and £5000, why would you want to have it crushed and get only £1000 back from the gov't when you could discount the new car by £1000 more than you were going to anyway and get the retail price of the trade-in back from the next customer? the dealer has bought the car in, but does not have to put it into the destruction scheme. In a nutshell, you were going to discount the car by £1000 and the gov't would then put in £1000. So really you have paid £3000 for the Mini and will sell it for, say, £4500. You have also sold a brand new car at full dealer price less £1000, which you would do for any cash customer anyway. It's a good deal for the dealer and a lousy deal for the Mini owner, who should have known what their car was worth in the first place. Business is business.
