Some advice please on how best to reliably locate the large end of the cvj rubber boot. I am using ordinary 1300 cvj's on a 1380 race Mini and have used stainless straps and plastic cable ties but neither have been totally reliable.
I now use stainless steel locking wire which appears to be succesful but I would appreciate others experiences/solutions of this problem.

Plastic cable ties won't have anything like enough strength to clamp them properly. You can get steel bands that are crimped on, and if you fit them properly they should be fine.

The large diameter end of the gaiter really is difficult to locate securely.
I have tried the plastic tie-wraps, without much success and the metal clip-thingys are simply awkward as well.
What I use is a length of locking wire, would around about 4 times, then twisted together and tightened using a good pair of pliars. I then cut the twisted locking portion to about 3/8" long and fold it against the gaiter with the end pointing away from the direction of forward rotation. Never had a problem once it's together, but getting the wire tight and in the groove on the CV joint can be difficult, even when done on the bench.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Peter.

Thats exactly what I will do from now on. The locking wire appears to work very reliably on the larger dia. boot section for both the cvj and the inner pot joint so I will ditch all the other methods for this one. Many thanks.
