My 19" Goodyears are close to renewal time. Before I dive in and replace with the same at over £200 a throw, I wonder if anyone out there is using one of the cheaper alternatives. I don't normally go for 'cheap' when it comes to rubber but brands like Toyo and Hankook are well known enough for me to trust.

Being a Sport, you can safely assume the toughest off roading it does are grass verges laugh

I run 20" and changed my Conti's for Hankook upon RRS forum recommendation, and they are a far better tyre.

Grippier, Quieter, cheaper and apparently they last longer (and the factory conti's are prone to outside edge wear).

My 20's cost me about £110 p/corner roughly 3 months ago and although at the time I remember that being an absolute steal you would think19's would normally be cheaper!?

I put Atturo tyres on the back of our RRS just as the snow hit in December. They performed brilliantly then, have been quiet and great in the rain. Done 9k on the rear pari which still look fresh and have since put them on the front.

By fluke, just looked on their website and they ironically have a RRS on their homepage, albeit a sadly blinged one!!rolleyes

Should add that they were about £130 a piece and as my daily drive is a TVR Tuscan, I also tend to drive the RRS a bit hard and it handles well with them.....for a landy

Good leads, thanks.

Snooping around, I see that some of the cheaper options are running a lower load index than LR factory spec and most are not Y rated (although I doubt my Sport would get too close to 180mph!), I wonder what the insurance implications would be?

Factory spec isn't always the best tho. The TVRs all left the factory with Bridgestones on and pretty much without exception everybody promptly tore them striaght off and put Toyos on them...!

The international market place and 'worst case scenario' of what cars may face in rougher circumstances than British roads is what they have to build for. Not that the state of our roads is much better than the Aussie Outback these days tank

What about fitting some 255/55x19 General Grabber AT's ?, just a tad bigger with no rubbing.

Getting great feedback on them from my customers.smile

Love the AT2's, takes me back to my Disco 2 days!

However, I am concerned about the insurance situation as I mentioned above. Standard fit is Y rated and load index of 107. AT2 is fine on load but not speed, Bridgestone the same, Toyo off on both counts.

Maybe I'm fretting without good reason but the idea of some pencil pusher telling me my car's not covered after a prang because the tyres were only good for 150mph worries me slightly. I'll call the NFU who cover it and see what they have to say (and report back of course!).
