Hi,

Local to me is an R reg P38 DSE, which looks fairly sorry for itself and hasn't been on the road for some time. I cycle past this car and for a while have been thinking about seeing if they would sell it. I've had a ton of Land Rovers from S1 to 90's and an RR Classic but nothing this modern!

The car looks in reasonable condition and is standard looking apart from the BFG AT's. It is sagged on its suspension and has a flat tyre. I know the air suspension can be problematical which could be why its off the road. It does appear to run as it's moved on the drive recently.

So, I'm thinking of asking them if they would be interested to sell it but don't know what to bid. Can anyone help with what to offer based on my brief description:

R Reg DSE
Dark Green Met
Looks standard
Tidy bodywork
BFG AT's

What are the key points to look for with the suspension? Some initial research suggests that an easy fix is if the compressor has failed?

Assuming it's done c.100-150k miles and with an MOT, what might it be worth if its in decent condition?

I would run it for a while as I've been feeling the need to scratch that Land Rover itch again! (also near me is an SIII 88" on a T or a Y that I have also been keeping an eye on) I'm not a Land Rober stalker or anything but I do live in the sticks so they're all over the place

Any help appreciated

cheers
Adam

American site with a lot of very good how-tos. Not much on the diesel engine, but covers prety much everything else in detail.

Bear in mind that these are far more complex electrically than earlier LR products. You will need LR specific diagnostic equipment (Testbook, Nanocom etc)to detect many faults & to clear them once the problem has been fixed - unless you want to keep shelling out to a LR garage!

At least it's diesel so it avoids all the slipped liner etc petrol woes but i suspect it's worth little more than you could weigh it in for.

I would suggest that you could pick up a reliable runner for a couple of grand, but could spend more than that getting this one going. Have a look at some similar cars on 'completed listings' on e-Bay and see how much they are going for.

I don't think you can make a serious bid on it without knowing how it runs. If you attmept to offer low based on P38 foibles then you may never get a look in. Why not just ask if they are interested in selling and then assess the car and bid from there?
