This is not a forsale ad!.

I have a N Reg P38 4.6 V8 HSE sat on my drive now for a number of months and i cannot decide if it is worth spending the month fixing a few small jobs or just sticking it up for sale as it is. So really looking for information as to how they are selling if anyone has sold any recently or pricing of fixing the parts.

The car runs fine, always starts first time and never uses any water or oil but i noticed a few start ups ago a small exhaust blowing from under the car somewhere. The body is ok condition, few small starts of bubbling under the paint around the arches and lower tailgate. The air suspension drops over a period of 2/3 days but always inflates quickly and has no issues when driving. I replaced the air suspension compressor 24 months ago.

The car has again only recently started to leak a little inside the cabin from i presume the heater matrix pipe o-ring of which i spotted was quite common. But it does not happen all the time.

The brakes i think need replacing aswell can anyone recommend somewhere to pickup a set?

The car has always been looked after by Nick Kerner 4WD just outside Ascot, and i have always spent any money that it has needed. Things i have replaced during my ownership, Air Compressor, Rear Axel (Diff). The car also had a replacement ECU (before i purchased it) which needs to get re-programed to bring back all the dash functions such as mpg etc - Not done yet due to not needing it.

The car has typically only been used for long trips Lemans/Nurburgring/Amsterdam and never missed a beat so seems a shame to let it go for next to nothing as a little loving would make it a brilliant car again.

So;
anyone know cost of / difficulty of fixing the heater matrix o-ring?
Any particular parts of the exhaust system typically fail first?
Good source for replacement parts?
Does anyone have any sort of idea of the Value of them now as by looking at the classifieds prices are all over the shop. Some cheap as chips yet some going for 3/4K.

Feels like such a shame thinking about selling it but as its not used for 6 months+ of the year also a shame its not being used.
Again i dont want this to come across as a forsale ad as it is not.

Regards

Is your cabin leak on drivers side footwell against transmission tunnel and does it taste sweet. If so it's "O" rings.

They can be done in about 3 hours following instructions to be found on'tinternet but first try k-Seal. It solved the problem on our previous P38 for 20k miles and when sold it was sill not leaking.

It's not permanent but if selling, does it matter.

As for value who knows. With petrol costs where they are you'll be lucky to get anyone to look. eBay auction is probably the best way. Take a look at completed listings to see what they are making.

I just sold a Disco 2 V8 with a virtually new Land Rover engine in it for £3.5kfrown and it was immaculate. If it had an oil burner under the bonnet it would have made double that but people are ste scared of a vehilce that can only do 15mpg.

Thanks for the reply Denis,

The leak is actually passenger side, cant say i have tasted it though! It only happens on start up for a few seconds as if while its building presure.

I Actually have a V8 Disco also which is used daily.

Thanks for the reply.

I remember you trying to sell last year when I put ours up for sale. I honestly think if it is priced right with good pictures it will sell. In my ad I listed any preventative maintenance done/parts replaced. I couldn't say that my P38 was better than many others per se as it had 183k on the clock. Everything worked apart from the heated seats.

Leak on passenger side could be a blocked air con drain tube. Do the taste test.
I bought a p38 in january and just spent last few months doing all the jobs - follow the link on my profile for detailed photos of the jobs.
