Well, the inevitable has finally happened after 11 years. The RR Centre that's looked after my old girl for years and years has just called and said that there's no point in trying to weld up what needs to be welded up for the MOT as there's nothing to weld it to, so it looks like curtains. The knacker man is coming tomorrow to make me a bid for the bits and it's off to find a Classic for around a grand ( No P38's spoiling my night's sleep - got enough to worry about as it is)

So if anyone knows someone who's trying to shift a mint Classic in the Hertfordshire area - give me a call

Jasper,
I'm sure it may be a bit grim but 1000 goes quite along way with a decent welder, especially on a car you know and have spent money on.
Is it really a lost cause? Can you do some of the prep work yourself first?
Hate to see a good car die.

As above. Chassis tend to be OK on RRs but the cills and floors go badly. A half decent mate with a welder should be able to sort it out for beer money and the price of some sheet metal (or even some replacement cill panels for about £30 a side). Discovery boot floors are common rust areas so I assume this is the same on RRCs so parts should be readily and cheaply available.

Bit more serious than that, both rear wheelarches, rear cross member, front crossmember and drivers' side sill, battery tray etc etc. In some places hardly any good metal left so it's patching onto patches and you can only do that so much.

It also needed all brake pipes replaced and a few other bits and bobs - It will, however, serve to keep other Rangies on the road. Amazing how much it can deteriorate in a year!

Moral of the story - should have listened a bit harder when the previous owner told me it had been used to launch powerboats into the sea....

put it on ebay.

good trueful description of problems and areas that need attention... some one will take it on as a project under the believe that Classics are rising in value !

Example a £1000 iveco van at work chucked a rod through the side and we sold it for £940.
Friend just sold a Hyundai MPV with major engine problem for £480.

Any more than £150 and your laughing !!

Well - two points here - the rot has spread throughout the rear of the body structure - and I've got more than £150.00 for it so the standing cost since purchase has been £181.00 per annum. That's bangernomics!

Seen a couple of very nice looking Vogues for not entirely silly money so we'll be doing it all again quite soon

Could you post pics up of the problem? I fabricate for a living so i could tell you how bad it really is. Surely it cant be that bad if its 11 years old?

If it was 11 years old I'd be throwing money at it - it was actually 23 years old - I'd just owned it for 11
