range rover battery dead, you boys must know what to do?
Discussion
I know it's not a Noble question but you chaps are usually switched on enough to help with any car!
I also have a 2006 supercharged range rover. I jump started a friends car late last night and that, coupled with the windscreen wipers constantly running even when the car is switched off(a problem which started on Friday night), has drained the battery. I tried to open the drivers door with the key this morning and that didn't work. key turned but didn't unlock the car.
so, is there a way i can get in the car without smashing a window/front grill??
I have a tow bar (dual electrics) fitted, can i put some power down there to allow the fob to open the car?
any help would be great
cheers

Yeah I've asked a couple of independent specialists and they know of nothing. The only key position is on the drivers door...
I have downloaded the pin outs for the tow bar and there is a live so hopefully it's a permanent one and I can get 12v in so I can get the door open. I can get a regulated 12v bench top supply from work so it can drag too much current through to make things a little safer.
Cheers

James,
Have you got any other keys for your car? You should be able to unlock it just with they key on the drivers door. The alarm will go off until you insert a key in the ignition, I'm just wondering if maybe you have a mismatch between your ignition and door key?
I've check my owners manual (have the same car as you), and there's no reason that you wouldn't be able to use the key, unless the lock itself is broken, which is quite possible, mine froze up during the winter and I couldn't open it on the key. Do you have AA or RAC membership? They should be able to help?

Have a look a this thread on Landyzone:

Looks like you should be able to rig up a method of getting 12v into your Rangie

So on the passenger door underneath there should be a hole? The handle section that moves stays on but the small section about 2inch uncoils and that's where the manual key lock is hidden..... The clips do normally break but there £4 to replace.....
No my handle is completely flush all round :-s. I'm trying the row bar method tonight. Will let you know how I get on. Thanks for the suggestions
ok so i tried putting some power through the tow bar tonight and it didnt seem to work. unless i need a trickle charger on it instead of the 3A school science lesson bench top power supply i used lol. the voltage dropped straight down to 4-6volts which would suggest i had a connection to the battery, perhaps i need to leave it connected for longer to allow the battery to take some charge from it?!?
any other suggestions would be great.
i def can't see any way of getting the passenger side handle off to get to this hidden key slot. has anybody got a pic of this??
cheers
