Hi Guys, posting on behalf of a friend.
Whats the general perception of these ? will be auto diesel model.
Any problems with engines gearbox or transfer box ?
Have heard conflicting stories regarding reliability especially in the electrics department.
Any models to avoid etc etc.
Thanks in advance.

We've got a 6-speed manual and an auto ; the manual is the preferable machine without doubt . The auto suits the calibre of the car , but seems to hunt up and down the box far more often than the Mercedes we run , and is between 6 and 8 mpg worse depending on use .
The manual has a light positive change , so is no chore .

I think you are talking Freelander 1 with it's woes. The FL2 is a fabulous vehicle, does everything without fuss. 2.2 Auto is a great package. A very reliable car.Whats the general perception of these ? will be auto diesel model.

We've recently had a manual 2.2eD4 delivered (2x4) in Galway green and almond interior . We ordered a 2.2 TD4 (4x4) but that's another story.
Can't recommend it enough. Have covered 3.5K already and it's been a joy. A very well dampered car, feels a lot bigger than it is (in a good way) and quality seems first rate.
I was quite sceptical when the o/h said she wanted one but wish it was my main car now.
My sister has the TD4 and her husband likes it so much he is looking at swapping his A6 for one.

Am a little late to the party here, but am seriously considering a TD4 Auto but have read quite a few owner reviews that complain about fuel economy being well below expected.
How have you guys found yours? I'd hope for 35+ combined with 40ish on motorway - am I dreaming??
Cheers

No chance I'm afraid, unless you go for the manual. I get low 30's combined, mid 30's on the m/way with my auto. Love it. My dealer has just offered me a awesome deal on a new Range Range, but I have no reason to trade it aside wanting a full fat!How have you guys found yours?
