Looking for a good rangie garage in Newcastle, my P38 has developed a gearbox fault and needs someone to look at it, any recommendations ?????

Hello mate,

There's a few decent garages, Les Pott's have a pretty good name, based in Sunderland, and Mastora are up in Alnwick.

What faults is it exhibiting? It'll sound daft and I'm sure you'll have checked or be aware, but if it's displaying gearbox fault etc, is your battery in good order?

I had a duff battery on mine last winter, and although it never failed to start or ran out, it wasn't supplying bang on the right current, and I had all manner of oddball errors, from static radio interference, to gearbox faults, to air suspension errors, to rough running, the works. They do like a good battery!

Detail the fault here, I am sure someone can advise. At least then you will know whether the garage you do take it too is taking sense or not smile

Cheers guys, the fault was the reverse gear, it was going in but you had to rev her like mad to get her to go, started off quite mild but got the point that it would just not catch in reverse. Took her into a local garage, not a great move as not Rangie specialist. They told me she needed a new gearbox so ordered one up. They fitted the gearbox, reverse problem fixed. Only problem is they seem to have screwed up the rest. If you try and pull away in drive it comes up with a gearbox fault and goes into limp home mode. If you use first to pull away in its fine and then you can switch into drive. Need to switch down to 1st though every time as will fault out every time if in drive and I need reset at the ECU.

Gave up on the garage that done the work, just not worth the hassle so want to take her somewhere that they now what they are doing. Its a 2002 P38 by the way, all help much appreciated.

As poster above says it should be battery voltage. I would suspect as the box has been replaced that there is a wiring fault, dirty or dogey plug or maybe an earth cable has not been replaced.
