Chaps,

An acquaintance has a 2005 RR Sport 2.7 TDV6, done approx. 40K miles and is having some issues. I need to keep the details fairly general incase the dealer/mechanics involved read this.

The acquaintance has a 3rd-party warranty, and is having some turbo trouble - warranty company has told him that if the turbo is removed and examined and found to be faulty then the warranty would honour the repair, but if the issues are due to a carbon build-up then warranty will step back and it's down to him to foot the repair/replacement costs.

Any known issues with this model/engine with carbon build-up on the turbos?

Not on the turbo but it is not uncommon for the EGR valve to get gunked up and stick.

FWIW - If it is the EGR, it is very easy to just blank it off.

TDV6 engines seem to have been prety reliable.

The Disco 3 & RRS have had a few software/electronics glitches, but are generally good, although I'm not a fan of the nanny-by-wire throttle.

Apparently the EGR has not long been replaced.

Symptoms are: car 'dies' for a second, engine management light flashes up then a second or two later all is well again.

Pass... I'd be inclined to get it plugged into a bit of test kit and find out what's complaining.
