Help needed please

Ok need to replace my car and am seriously considering Range Rover but need some info please. Here are my questions any help would be much appreciated:
Whats the difference between Range Rover and Range Rover Sport?
I want a very high spec Vogue se but cant work out if the spec level is the same on the sport?
Im concerned about a lack of power. I've always driven petrol Saabs turbos and consequently never struggled with a hill or overtaking. I see 4x4s pass me downhill on a motorway but then struggle up the hills. Please advise re bhp and torque through the rev range on the rangie.
I've heard the td6 is the bulletproof engine (& im aware theres lots of other gremlins but im prepared to accept if it can do the job day in, day out)but would anyone recommend the 4+ltr or 5+ltr. Thanks in advance. Please be frank, this is my keeper for the next few years and will be expected to earn its keep so it's gotta cut the mustard. Thanks.

The sport is slightly shorter and slightly lower at the back but not much in it. The sport is more 'driver focused'.

Depends if buying new Sport as the spec is way better now than it was. You can get sport with rear DVD/TV etc but Vogue SE has EVERYTHING!!

Very easy to find this out (yourself) on the net!! but the TDV8 engine is immense! Not as fast as the SAAB off the line but a flying machine on the go. Hills are a doddle!

TD6 is Range Rover only and is a complete dog where speed/acceleration is concerned. The TDV6 in the sport is better and the TDV8 is just awesome (not driven the latest 4.4 but been a passenger and it's great). If you don't care about consumption (mid-teens MPG) then the supercharged is reputed to be phenomenal - especially the latest 5.0

Just the stuff I need thank you! I've looked at the bhp and torque figures but I don't think anything replaces driver feedback. I've driven v6s both turbo and non and didn't like it without. Have driven diesels for short periods but not owned one. I'm pleased you've confirmed the td6 is underpowered as I guessed it would be. Youre helping me choose my next car here so thanks for this.... Don't want massive fuel bills so think I'll steer clear of the supercharger though I know it answers all the overtaking/ hill questions. This car will do about 12k a year split between mammoth journeys around Scotland and Wales and runabout journeys with dogs in tow. I've never driven a v8 and am happy to go for a 4 or 5+ ltr and would consider a gas conversion if it doesn't affect the power output too much? As for toys. Rear tvs/DVDs aren't a concern (kids are full grown adults) but I want all the toys I'm used to heated/ cooled seats, sunroof, electric everything so dont want to downgrade. Not bothered about age just as long as its under 100k miles and not older than 5 years. Eagerly awaiting your recommendation!!! Ta
All HSE Range Rover Sports have heated seats but I'm pretty sure only the supercharged offered cooled ones. I think from what you say, your ideal car would more likely be a good TDV8 Vogue (Vogue SE if you want cooled seats) rather than the Sport as it has much more in the toys department. I went for the Sport as I much preferred the look of it to the full fat.
Hi. I also prefer the look of the sport and though I am used to my fan cooled seats it seems I have to compromise something. I don't really want to spend more than £30k so can't look at later ones and if I have to give up anything I'd rather concede cooled seats to power. After driving turbo charged petrols for the past 20 years I don't wana end up with a car that frustrates me every time I accelerate. I'm not asking for racing acceleration but I overtaking safely power. Ta
Just taken on a 2007 RRS TDV8 within your budget. 55k miles, through a main dealer. You'll be pre facelift in the specs you're after. I was looking for a particular combo (Stornoway Grey, but with Alpaca leather as opposed to black) so probably compromised on some toys in less ideal cars.
Result: a car that is not short on power AT all. It sits nicely next to our D4 but you can feel the difference. Voice control, sat nav, radar cruise control. All there.
