guys,

My trusty. (a relative term) 4.6 has died, I tried to start it with a nearly flat battery, which it didn't. I recharged the battery but is now a non starter. The engine turns over when I jumper out the relay but it comes up with a tamper error when I turn the key. The two front doors no longer respond to the central locking either. I have checked the fuses and they all seem OK. I reset the alarm system using the key in the lock method. I noticed that when I turn the key to pos 3, to start the engine I can hear a relay clicking in the BECM and the Radio and AC display loose power. anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like you have upset the ecu/alarm system, I'd check all the battery connection and that the battery is definitely a good un, then disconnect it it for a few days and try again, failing that you'll need to get it on rovacom/testbook to diagnose it..

P38's hate weak/flat batteries, if in doubt get a heavy dudty one, I replaced one with almost double caacity to what is recommended and I’ve been so impressed with how much better the car is low voltage causes no end of silly problems.

Battery is fooked, seems like it's not got enough power to turn the starter motor. Try using jump leads off a larger vehicle and see if it will go, if so then buy a really big battery with a 3 yr warranty. Mine died recently and on the way out it was giving all sorts of weird errors before it gave up the ghost.

If yr car is coming up with keycode lockout, then you must enter the keycode properly to get the car to start.
You will know if the code is accepted when, the after entering the code, the final unlock turn should restore the central locking command.
By trying to bypass relays and such will not help you start your car !

Manually reset the system with the key in the door.
Mine used to do it a lot.
Code in the book or from a dealer.

The first time mine did it was at the drop off area infront of Stansted airport and my dealer wouldn't give me the code!!!

Battery is good and tried it with jump leads too. I tried to input the key cove via the lock and it accepts the code, central locking will then work but only on rest doors. I think it's either a Becm fault or a sync issue. anyone know a mobile engineer in Andover area with the ability to tre sync and or test the Becm?

BTW Understood that the car wouldnt start but wanted to isolate the starter motor circuit by jumpering out the relay smile
