Jeep Commander V Disco or RRS
Discussion
I am one of those people who have browsed Piston Heads for some years now but never posted, probably as i am on several other specific classic car forums!
Anyway here is my question to you kind folks; i have a 57 plate Jeep Commander with 37000miles on it, i have had it since Feb 2008 when it was 6months old and it is on a company car lease. When it came time to chop it in for something else last year i ended up keeping it on for another year and the end of the lease is now upon me again so i have started looking at a replacement and have been out test driving the following VW Touareg, Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, Disco 4 and RRS (awaiting test drive of Toyota Land cruiser this week) I need a 4x4 for my work and for towing, plus thats what i want! of the ones i have test drove i know for sure i dont like the Touareg, XC90 and Q7 for various reasons so its down to the Disco4 or RRS if i go for new!
Then my second question comes i could buy my Commander from the lease company for £11,500 and take a car allowance from the company or go and buy something else like a 2007 Disco or RRS but they are over twice the price of the Commander for the same age, condition and mileage! Yet i would put the Commander in the same bracket as an equivalent aged Range Rover in terms of speck etc. Is a 2007 Disco or RRS so much better than the Jeep?

Personally, I would stick with the Jeep. If you know the history of it & it is well specced, it should give you plenty of trouble free motoring at a much lower total cost of ownership than swapping it
Yes i think you are right when it comes to a Disco of RRS of the same age and miles my Jeep is a better buy at half the price and known history! But now i am faced with the question of do i pay the £11,500 for the jeep and take the cash allowance or do i just go for a new Disco4 XS on the company lease for 4 years with a £15,000 balloon to own it at the end?
I guess the decision is do I take full ownership of something now and some cash, or pay the tax on the new vehicle for the next few years, plus save the £15.5k to pay for the balloon. If you have to scratch thevLandy itch, go for it (I had to & I did it with a FFRR V8, but wouldn't do it again, as i was always worried about maintenance costs as it aged).
It's a real head vs heart decision......
