Thoughts please. I currently have new Conti 20"s on a RRS I recently picked up, but I'm thinking they may not serve me well should the white stuff appear in any great quantity.

Are there any suggestions for straight swap rubber (currently 275-40-20)?
Are there any suggestions for 19" wheels?

I've seen some 20" with a 45 profile, but don't know whether they'll fit. Or a 255-50-19 set of something or other should I need to buy a replacement set of alloys.

A few friends recommend Vredestein Wintrac extremes for the RRS

Not used them myself on the RRS but my Daughter has them for her Focus and they made a huge diffrence last winter. I have a set of 19" Goodyear MT/R which are winter rated, they are great in loose snow etc. but not so good on ice.

Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme's, very good tyres, hard to find at present but I know a man in Surrey who has a few.

Recent test in Evo rated the Conti winter tyre. Getting some fitted tomorrow, 295x40x20 on Sport rims (going on the Disco 4). Got them via Kwikfit 'on line' £1100 fitted.
Let you know what they're like when the cold weather/snow hits.

Bad time of the year to be buying winters weeping

My TDV8 was amazing last year on 19" Wintrac Extremes
I bought a set of alloys s/h from an upgrader and fitted them with the Vred's for less than 500 quid from the local fitter

The price quoted in the post above probably reflects capitalism at its best LOL
But the sad reality is that if you want winter tyres in November you will have to pay a premium
In December if it snows then just bend over backwards and loosen your belt.....

Although the first year I ran the car in the snow it was on standard 20" Pirellis with good tread and to be honest wasnt too shabby
But the Wintracs really did rock by comparison

Cheers
