I've been scanning the PH classifieds and autotrader but don't seem to be turning up any good, lower priced Defender 90s.

I'm not looking for a money pit, or some old ratty tin can that some deluded owner believes is in 'good condition'; however, there seems to be little else left on the market. All the good lower priced Defenders seem to be non-existent (there were plenty on the market a few months back).

Are there any other places that are worth looking, or has the glut of sub £10k Defenders dried up because of winter being around the corner?

How so? That they are all money pits and all current owners are deluded as to the condition of their 10-year old Defenders?

Then there's the announcement of that awful DC100 joke.

A combination of this and the winter coming makes Defenders sparse at the moment.

This new product launch has convinced me that keeping my '91 Defender in a rust free condition is going to pay dividends in a few years, when all the farmers want my 90 because there are fewer and fewer good one's left.

They are about, You just have to check all the usual sites every day then be willing to take day off work next day when the right one comes up like I did today, last night I saw a 96 300tdi 90 with crap pics n crap ebay ad but I took a punt offered 3.5k and went down today to get it. bloody hell what a bargain I got, N reg 300tdi with terrafirma suspension, 305.75r16 BFG muds, goodridge brake hoses etc etc etc. FLRSH up to now, 20 stamps!!! very tidy paint, as new chassis and bulkhead under all the mud.
worth a easy 7k all day long when polished up!

I looked for 5 months and managed to find 1, 150 miles from home, in a dealer at a reasonable price. Of course, reasonable is a relative term but a "bag of sand" behind most dealers for a similar spec.

Mine is a genuine CSW with air con so a nice extra, and low mileage with full history.

When I started looking there were circa 350 for sale on PH classified. That's currently down to 220 so with winter approaching and memories of last winter, people are hanging on to their cars.

The dearth of vehicles is further exacerbated by dealers buying privately and wacking £3k - £5k on without even putting a cloth over it. My own 50th was bought by a dealer back in Feb and immediately put on his website for a £5k premium. Sold within a few days. Why didn't the punter come direct to me.

I was after 1 in the Lake District at £8500. Missed it and a couple of weeks later it turned up via a dealer for £12,650. So this reduces availability and forces huge inflation into the market.

And remember, it's still quite warm and sunny out there. Well it is in the south. Just wait till the weather changes and the first snow falls hit. Another £2k on prices and even less vehicles around.
