First, I am not trying to start a "thing" here.

Second, I am an FFRR type person but I am looking at the RRS for practicalities etc.

I have picked up on some of the RR unreliability reputation.
I have also seen examples of owners who have had perfect ownership experiences.

Now to the Q, I hired an RRS TDV8 last year and really quite liked it.
I am seriously looking at getting an RRS so are there any benefits/issues with the TDV8 over the TDV6, or the other way round?

Or should I just go back to looking at BMW's, Audis, MB's, etc?

Thanks for any and all comments.

The internet is the LAST place to look if you want to find out about reliability!!! When was the last time you saw someone post on a forum "Hey, this is the most reliable car I have ever owned and I have had absolutely no problems!"?? wink

BMW, Audi, etc... all have their own problems too.

As for TDV8 vs TDV6... TDV8 wins hands down every time. smile

Reliability - Both engines are pretty much bomb-proof!

Agreed.

LR issues mainly revolve around the electronics, and for the FFRR the battery is the main issue.

I am still amazed at how much I love my TDV8 RRS having never ever imagined owning a 4x4 let alone a RR Sport

Having said that the TDV8 is a different beast from the V6

The phase1 V6 is just awful
I have driven the new model's engine in a Disco and whilst its massively better its just too nervous for my liking

On the other hand the facelift has a hugely nicer interior

The sweet spot though is the TDV8 in the current model but they only did that for a few months

Cheers

Thanks RRS Staffs and others.

So that's it then, I'm off to the dealers Saturday morning looking at late model TDV8s.

What do you mean, "nervous"?

nervous = gutsy but has to be revved

dont get me wrong its massively better than the TDV6 in the Disco3 and original RR Sport but for me a 4x4 has to 'waft'

which the TDV8 does with knobs on

smile

cheers

I had a 2006 TDV8,sold it with 98,000 miles had a few problems with failed air compressor and a split intercooler hose that took several visits to the dealer to get sorted.
I currently have a 2010 TDV8 with the 4.4 engine, done 27,000 miles so far and love it!,even though it was in the dealer for 3 days last week suffering from an intermittant engine fault. The dealer kindly loaned me a RRS TDV8 autibiograpy and i have to say that I really liked it despite being in 'footballer' spec.

In my experience Range Rovers tend to go back to the dealer for a few problems to get sorted out I really dont think I would change marques.
