Hi all,
Just bought my better half a 5 door Evoque Prestige.
She gas had some very nice cars over the years with MB 320, SLK and recently her Murani to name a few but I must say the Evoque tops them all for quality (in my opinion of course).
Materials and finish, equipment level and topped by a great drive are a credit to Land Rover.
My Wife loved her Freelander previously and so is more than happy.

Or was it 80 broke down at once?? biggrin

As a long term Landy fan, it does sadden me about their reliability. I don't own any modern Landy's, but my neighbour is on his 3rd. D3, then RRS, then another RRS as the first one was so bad they had to swap it for another.

I know others with modern Landy's too. All have had issues, right down to even the likes of a 60 Anni Defender (3 gearboxes later it was swapped for an RRS, which now eats batteries).

Things have been like that since the first TD5 Def/Disco up till now, been working on them for over 30 years and used to always have each new model out, now drive a Landcruiser Amazon.

I did 120,000 miles in my D3, now have a D4.

Reliability is all in the eye of the beholder IMHO.

Doing high mileage has little to do with reliability though. Did you have anything go wrong with it ever? If not, then you are probably the exception not the norm.

I've had three FFRRs in a row since 2006, 150,000 miles between them and not a single fault.

Majority of reliabilty surveys Land Rover always do poorly - mind you that has been an open secret since the first Range Rover in the 70s.The fact that they managed to sell so many unreliable vehichles consistently to some of nation's wealthiest citizens is pretty amazing
Not a anti -LR rant btw smile
Evoque rear vision shockingly poor with slit window

I had more problems and faults with my Landcruiser Amazon. My Vogue was a far better car. Plus i bought the Toyota because the discovey was so bad.

Interesting replies.
My Wifes Freelander was reliable with one exception which was quickly sorted.
I've been driving TVR's for years so am well aware if 'real' reliability issues as well as undeserved reputations.
Have driven all over Europe with my RV8 powered Chimaera's with not one breakdown.
Speed6 powered Tuscans are a different matter until you get a modern rebuild.
I don't take any notice to the 'a friend of mine had lots of problems' advice.
I'll keep an update of how the Evoque goes on.
But we all know this is part of the reputation problem. We share our problems and solutions on here and other people conclude that certain cars are unreliable.

I was under the impression that Freelander/Evoque are made in a different factory and that the FreeLander2 has been the most reliable LandRover product ever.

If true, should be a good sign.

But generally land rovers are pretty ste. Me and a large group of friends all own landys - discos, defenders, range rovers (all beit older ones) and they need constant maintance and repairs. Their japanese counterparts of the same era just keep going.

Again, you are talking about old ones though, if you are running one from 5+ years ago you are talking about an old vehicle that was from a time when they weren't that great in the first place.

With an Evoke we are talking about vehicles being built today and whatever the neigh-sayers say the way in which JLR is performing now does mean that they must have got their act together. My experience has certainly been that the new vehicles are as reliable as any on the market

Land Rovers designed in the Ford era are a far superior quality product to their predecessors.

I think quality has improved, although my wife had hers detailed yesterday and the paint on the front bumper is so thin in places you can see the plastic underneath it, not great that it wasn't picked up during QA for a premium brand. Sent photos to the dealers, will see what they say.

She still loves it though!

Have to say I do love the look of the new Evoque (although not the silly name).

I hope they stay reliable but drop in price on the used market so I can buy one wink

I didn't have a single fault in those 120,000 miles in my D3, just service and routine maintainence/modifications. And that car went everywhere, Pyrenees, up to its nuts in rivers and mud, even did a TYRO trial with it and she beat a load of defenders!!

I've also got a 1986 V8 90 and i've not had a single problem with that either to be fair. He doesn't do the mileage but he starts and runs great every time I go to him. Bloody brilliant old motor. Not many 25yr old cars will do that no matter what breed!

I've also owned TVR so I do understand reliability but I think people coming from Jap/German brands are blinkered, i've had FAR more problems with Audis & Mercs over the years!

^This, unlikely as it may seem, given that the Freelander (& now the Evoque) are built in the heart of nation's anti-industrial sector, a.k.a. Merseyside (home of umpteen unions and their squads of ambulance chasing shysters), the Halewood factory and the products have been a real success story.
