The crank split on my disco 4 at 56000 miles. Just out of service and land rover offered nothing!

Does this sound familiar to any one?

That sounds like a casting fault. Know any tame metallurgists, they'd soon tell you why it failed.

it is a fault that I have seen a few times in my workshop... not a happy time for the customer, and Land Rover do not want to admit any kind of liability it seems.

I know of one customer who had a contribution from them but the others were left to sort it out themselves.
