New Rangie questions
Discussion
Ok, bit the bullet at last and have replaced my old P38, she was giving me endless problems and another auto box problem clinched it. Now the proud owner of a 2007 4.2 supercharged. So here are the questions, firstly, she has all the toys, Venture Cam, Rear screens, Pre heater etc etc so
Number 1, what do I need to look for, by this I mean what are the common faults in this model and what should I expect
Number 2, She has TV and rear screens, it is Analogue TV though, must have just missed the conversion to freeview, I have noticed though that some 2007 models have freeview and would like to know what the conversion process and cost is. Is this aftermarket or can Range Rover just press a button at the shop or fit a part.
All help much appreciated.

I have a 2007 S/C, and it has a hybrid (digital and analogue) TV tuner. I would be very surprised if yours was analogue only.
2007 is about the time it was switched from analogue to digital. Sounds like the OP has an early 2007 where as yours is a late 2007...M
Thanks guys, pick her up next week, only had a quick look at the tv though, pressed the button and got fuzzy picture which indicates analogue as free view is either on or off. Is it a dual setup analogue and digital? It's a march 2007 registered car. Would be great if it was there, another question, is the radio dab and if not is there a conversion for this.
I have the 2007MY, registered in Nov 2006 - I'm sure it has the digital TV, not that I watch it very often. Obviously, main diff on the change over for 2007MY is the addition of Terrain Response.
Anyways, I've had mine about a year. Had a couple of things sorted under warranty, seemed to be general things to look for:
-cold start stalling - just needed a software update by the dealer.
-squeaking from belts when cold - needed a new tensioner.
-new track rod ends fitted at the MOT - apparently common issue.
The main preventable thing to be aware of is the rear wheel arches where the door shut line is - common spot for mud and grit to fly up and if not cleaned/waxed it will rust - mines only 5 years old! (poor design really - recently had mine re-sprayed and treated before it got bad, not that it was terrible, but if it starts I like things fixed - it was about £300).
Otherwise, it's a fantastic car. The engine is great, it will happily waft along lazily until you fancy flooring it and suddenly it's hilarious as the bonnet raises and you launch forward in your armchair watching the fuel gauge act like a rev counter. That Supercharger whine is fun though. I have two friends who also had them for years – only two issues - one had a new compressor for the air suspension, the other mate had a seized brake pad (not the cars fault!).
I can also recommend fullfatrr website - very useful resource and search engine.

One thing that almost all RR's suffer from is a multitiude of apparently random warning lights coming on along with the car not starting, caused by a duff or failing battery, so it might be worth checking wether the car has had a new battery fitted, as you're getting to the time when the batteries start to produce weird problems. If it hasn't been replaced, you could chance your arm and ask for it to be replaced. Just make sure they replace it with a battery man enough to do the job!
As a member of fullfatrr.com I can thoroughly recommend it as a great source of information and tips.

Thanks guys, sounds like I might have the free view already
taking down my old p38 next week to the dealer and picking my new one up, just replaced the battery on the p38 with a new heavy duty one. I think I might switch this out for the old one and put it into the new Rangie.
Been over to ff, thanks for this. It really is a font of knowledge. Will come in very usefull.

Congratulations, and welcome to the S/C club! Fantastic car. Did you press the auto tune button to get the channels? Or is this not necessary on digital? I'd have thought you'd have a hybrid tv module.

Look out for uneven break pad wear, the callipers have a habit of binding, and the pad indicators are only on the nearside read, and offside front.
There's been a lot of debate on DAB radio, and wether it can be retrofitted. Models previous to MY07 were BMW based and as such, BMW had a DAB module that could be retrofitted to BMW cars, so in theory they "could" be fitted and programmed to work in RR's, although I don't know of anyone who's managed it. I did it on my BMW E60 with little or no problems, but when I got the RR I did some research and found it wasn't something anyone had managed to do successfully, although you can buy an OEM DAB module. In the end I fitted a ICS100 DAB tuner and use the FM modulation option (it has a line out, but I'm told the output is too low to get any decent volume) to listen to it. I tapped into the TV antenna (on the rear side window) and get pretty decent reception in most places.

. Picked her up today, great call on the battery though, had said to the dealer and they agreed to replace, picked up the car and was on route to thier workshop a couple of miles away to get a new one fitted. Pulled in for a healthy burger ban bacon butty and spent 10 minutes playing with all the new toys. Went to start her up to go back on my merry way and guess what, nothing and all the lights started flashing like a christmas tree and errors popping up. Guuy came out, jumped her, back to workshop and one new battery later and I am a happy bunny again
