I am down sizing my fleet as although I know in PH terms you can never have too many cars I think I have too many!

So The Aston stays as does her Fiat 500. Those are non negotiable!

I am going to sell my E55 Estate and Disco 3 and buy a Disco 4.

But what would you do?

I have the choice at the moment of 2 really.

1. A Brand new in dealership XS with the New 255 BHP engine and 8 speed gearbox. But in Fiernze Red...

Or

2. A 10 month old HSE with all the toys in Stornaway grey. It has the 6 speed gearbox and slightly less powerful engine.

The price is almost the same so just down to the sensible thing to do?

Well its a personal choice but for my money its:

New car, better engine, better gearbox, better colour Vs a few extra toys.

You can guess which one I'd choose and I have a feeling the market may feel similar when you come to trade.

I would definitely go for the newer engine (3.0 SDV6) with 8-speed box. Although they are the same price now, the newer engine/gearbox will hold its value better. The colour might be an issue though wink

Any other dealers around you with a better combo of SDV6/8-speed/colour ?

Hmmm... Tough call.

The new engine & gbox is a very lazy drive but the HSE has all the toys.

TBH - I'd probably go for the HSE. If nothing else, it has the potential for better residuals when you come around to sell it.

Blimey thats a suprise. I'm not an authority on used LR prices at all (mine was 3k on Ebay!), and I know kit matters but its hard to believe a few extra toys would trump a newer / better engine and gearbox when it comes to selling time.

Personally, it would depend on how long I was going to keep it.

If a long termer I would probably go for the HSE as it has all the toys including some important ones - like electric memory seats if you both use the car regularly.

If you have a shorter change cycle, then probably the XS. Aside from slightly better power and gearbox, it also has some COMMS upgrades that are really nice too.

Although not much to be had I would have thought, I would want a slightly better deal on the XS than if the same car was in (virtually) any other colour than Firenze Red.

Both good cars - but we do sell FAR more HSE than XS.

Driven both similar cars last week, not much in it really, but after driving the newer version I had to have it !

You'll be surprised what options you don't get with the XS that come as standard with the HSE, which was my downfall really, it HAD to be the HSE with the 8 speed box ! spin

Personally, I would try a little harder on a newer HSE car ........... you will be surprised at how much a new HSE can be got for at the moment, and at a Stratstone dealer ?!! wink

That doesn't sound that cheap !
An 11 plate will probably be the older version (6 speed), have only seen 61 plate 8 speed cars as they didn't really arrive till Oct 2011, unless it was a Land Rover launch car ?

As suspected it's the 6 speeder, not a bad spec, but the later 255bhp 8 speed paddleshift ones can be had for similar money on a 61 plate .......

Go for the red XS, too many grey/silver Disco's on the road. Re-sale should be ok as will be only a few red ones available for each customer wanting that colour.
The difference in usable goodies is minimal.
