Life is draining....
Discussion
From the battery on my 4.6 P38 (99 thor).
I replaced the battery to a bigger better one thinking that was the problem, but no it appears to be having the life sapped from it by something.
Anyone have any ideas, I've read eliots bit on the red light next to the gear selector and that is going out after 2 minutes or so as it should.
Is it time for a rag in the filler neck and a match?
Seen this?

Sounds like you have a parasitic battery drain. If the above isn't the cause you'll need to connect the multimeter as shown & start pulling fuses to find which circuit is the problem.

I think this is a problem with the remote locking, something is waking the car/computer up and draining the battery. Very common on the P38a.
I had the same problem with 1 I had. From memory remove the back right hand side panel in the boot and remove the connector to aerial in the side back window. The remote locking will only work when you are stood very close but It will solve the problem.

Interesting read, however I have a new problem now that it won't start, she tries to turn over but just can't.
Silly question, I assume you have fully re-charged the battery with a battery charger? Was the battery new, is it possible the battery is defective?
Earths all in good order? Battery connections clean & tight?
Ok, just been to put it back on charge, whilst there I watched the red light again, after 2 mins it went out, then I pressed my garage remote control and it came back on. So I presume a door bell, alarm, other car fobs are keeping it awake a lot of the time.
So I've got access into the rear RH side panel in the boot and removed the blue wire that goes to the window, this has made no differance.
If I remove the little multi plug next to it this solves the redlight comming back on, but it also keeps the car imobalised and the fob will not work even from inside the boot. My fob also has a new battery and a strong range.
So my question is where do I go from here.

OK, rhs side rear, remove the top panel and there is a small black box which is the receiver for the remote cdl. this needs replacing as it now looking at signals in the wider band than was intended. This is what is draining your battery.
A simple replacement is all that is needed, but...they are costly (£175).

Air-con compressor is constantly energised due to faulty relay
I don't think that would stop it firing up though. This is a seperate issue to the power drain. The f
king thing just won't burst into life and it's given no faults in the lead up to this either apart from not holding charge for more than 2-3days when left on the drive, and I've done nothing different, all i normally do if connect it up to the ctek for a few hours and it's right as rain. It just gets better, it's snowing and I'll need it for pulling vans up the slope from my yard on monday
.bloody typical british engineering, great until you need it
