Painting galvanised chassis
Discussion
Good afternoon.
I am currently 'researching' the option of a galvanised chassis for my Defender, but I am getting conflicting advise on how to paint it, or whether to bother to paint it.
It would appear that you need to degrease then 'T-wash', then rinse off with water before priming. I don't really have anywhere to put a chassis apart from the garage so can't really hose it down - and wouldn't want to keep moving it about anyway to do this.
Therefore I have 3 options:
1 - Simply rub it down with a Scotchbrite pad, paint with galvo primer (Hammerite Special Metals primer?), then chassis black. Will this eventually lift off leaving a water trap?
2 - Leave it as it is - but possibly paint the rear cross member to tone it down a bit
3 - Just coat with Waxoyl?
I don't want to spend £1300 on a chassis then 'do the wrong thing'.
Any advice would be most gratefully received
