Thinking about getting a 4.4 and LPG'ing it and wanted to know when the Jag V8 went into the car.

Most people say stick with the BMW V8 as it is bomb proof

Thx

Easy, the 4.4 is the BMW unit, the 4.2/5.0 Supercharged is the Jag engine.

The Supercharged engines can't be LPG'd without issues, the 4.4 is aye-ok.

Thought that there was a 4.4 jag unit before the supercharging?

But the 2005 model was when it switched from BMW to Ford/jag.

So if it has the 54 Reg upgrades to the nav system etc (which I would want) it is going to be the Jag engine?

Thanks for that

Generally, yes. BUT, there are some 54 plate motors which have the upgaded interior (ie touchscreen satnav) but BMW running gear. Probably not many though.

Best to get a picture of a jag engine in the RR and compare it to the motor you're looking at.

I LPG'd my Sport SS from new in 2006 and 100k later I sit in it writing this while the misses shops in Bicester village and with only one prviviso it's been no problem. My regret is not fitting a Prins system. My OMVL gas kit cannot deliver enough gas at 3500 plus revs. The Prins kit would have had 2 units to deliver gas and is a far superior bit of kit. I skimped on £ and regret it. But I have no regrets on putting it on gas, sure it's not quite as rapid but who gives a RR lots of welly very often. I am told that LPG wears the engine less than petrol and mine sounds same as new. We keep talking of getting something new but only getting £10k for a car that works perfectly seems insane a we will probably just refub wheels and have her detailed and keep for another few years.

Thx Craig, so probably not the huge issue that some people report.

Or check the gearbox - 4.4 BMW had 5 speed, the 4.4 Jag had 6 speed.
