Why is it Land Rover navigation so poor? The map view is absolutely hopeless, why can't Land Rover take a look at Mercedes and BMW and learn something from them? I wish I had brought a Tom Tom with me today.

this in your autobiography?

my earlier RR with the BMW system (touch screen) has had numerous updates and is still not as good as my friends cheap Tom Tom

i really don't think LR are that concerned with nav systems etc - if they really were they would offer a system that you could update yourself

i have a Snooper Sapphire - i can plug that in every day and receive live updates

In a Discovery, but both are bad. One thing though, at least it took me to my exact destination, the man I had to meet had an Audi system which sent him to the centre of the town, about two miles away!
The system info and operation is fine but the view that you get map wise is a waste of time.

Audi is hopeless and AFAIK BMW is (or at least was until recently) incapable of taking full UK postcodes.

Never had a single problem with my LR satnav.

Fully agree - the nav in our RRS is completely hopeless. So difficult to follow what's going on with the map. The nav in our 3 series is so much easier to operate and much easier to follow the map / instructions.

Yes it works well and gets you to your destination, but if you travel on long journeys on a regular basis it is rubbish at showing you where you are in relation to other places nearby, you can't tell one road from another when trying to work out if it is sending you on the best route or not. People who only use it for short journeys, or who rely totally on their sat nav will probably find it fine.
The latest BMW version is easily the best on the market and is the unit that all car makers should try to replicate.

My Wife's Freeland II has the least intuitive satnav I've ever had the misfortune to try and use. Others do it so much better.

My biggest bugbear about the FL2 was the Satnav. By contrast, Nissans is absolutely superb in the X-trail.

I heard they improved the Sat-Nav in the Evoque though didn't they?

The OP's car is a run out model and has not been upgraded to the new set up.

The 2012 Evoque, Sport and Disco4 all have the fantastic new system with voice activation and it's absolutely brilliant. I have the same system in my Jag and it works perfectly.

Sorry, I thought he was talking about his ATB. The D4 has the new nav which is fantastic.

Yes, the Range Rover is a run out model now but I also have two Disco 4 and the map view on them is equally poor.

The satnav in the gf's D3 is perfect. If you want to be delivered a mile from your destination. Or if you want to perform a drive-by on your destination from an adjacent motorway with no junction for a few miles.
