Does anyone out there have an idea as to why my central locking has stopped working?

With either the remote or using the key, all the doors lock, but will then unlock, sometimes immediately, sometimes as your walking away and on occasion about half an hour later. Of course when I take it to my mechanic to show him the problem, it works correctly!

If I use the remote, and it unlocks it will set off the alarm.

I've recently had to have the power wire to the o/s window motor replaced as it had virtually broken in two in the rubber conduit from the A pillar to the door after 10 years of been opened and closed, resulting in the window motor not working. Could there be a another wire in there with a bad connection causing the problem?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Certainly worth a look at the wiring that runs through both the A pillars to the doors as the wires can break here.
You do not say which Defender you have- the reason I ask is that my 110 developed an alarm/central locking fault and needed the wiring to the rear passenger doors replaced. Also don't rule out the back door as this also has wiring within rubber conduit that has to bend and again over time may have broken.

What's the point of central locking on a vehicle where most of the windows simply push out of their seals?
