am very tempted to enter into landie ownership, but am confused by the above peculiarity...registration is P ie 1976, as indicated by gov website. instrument panel is in front of driver also, indicating later car, but front end and wings are straight from a series two with lights inboard and side/turn set horizontal on wings....also has "built up" front bumper on each side ie double layer . can anyone shed some light on this for me?

You're going to have to give a lot more details that that!
Ideally pics of the vehicle in question.
Ex-military may have variations from the civilian models.
Many bits can be interchanged between models.

Looks like a series 3 with series 2 wings and front panel, can be put back original with time and spanners......

It is deffinatley a series 3 but your right it does have a series 2 front end. With military style bumper additions and 90 style rear windows.

Don't forget that Landys are like Meccano!

So, it could be bits from all sorts of cars there.

Thanks for the replies guys...set myself a limit of £400 given that the gearbox was an unknown ( and very expensive to recon from my research) and the bulkhead appeared to be in poor condition. Lost out to someone who appears to handle lots of these so I hope he can make something of it!!

You won't get much Landy for £400 unless you are prepared for a rusty chassis and bulkhead and plenty of restoration work. £1500 however may buy you a decent roadworthy S111.
