This engine in the D3/RRS gets periodically knocked on here so here's a post of support!

Drove my RRS on a round trip from Bath to Twickenham yesterday, mainly motorway and some twisties over Salisbury Plain. Wasn't hanging around but not being daft either. At no point did I think that 'this is rough' or 'blimey it's slow!'. It's a big 4 x 4 after all!

For the return journey, trip said 31.7mpg and averaged 51mph.

Sure the 3.0 or TDV8's are much better technically and quite probably behind the wheel but in isolation, it's fine!

Toyota and Mitsubishi's D3 competitors still use 3+ litre 4 cylinder engines. Makes the 2.7 V6 seem like a Jag V12 in comparison.

Is your RRS chipped?

I probably get about 26/27mpg on average out mine but been considering getting it chipped. Not sure if the £400 is worth the extra couple miles for all i drive the vehicle at weekends

Not that I know of! Normal use around home brings mine down to what you're getting.

I don't know what your point is really? Surely you didn't buy it for economy. I think a TD5 engined Disco could finish that journey with a better average mpg.

LR are aiming to get a 40mpg average out of the new FFRR. I'll be interested to see if they manage it in real world conditions smile

I seriously doubt a Td5 would have been more economical, and at most only 1-2mpg. But it's also worth remembering the Td5 makes less power and torque and is in a lighter vehicle and likely a manual gearbox to get better mpg. Slap a Td5 in a D3 with the auto and it'll be a lot slower and produce worse mpg than the 2.7

No point other than I've seen plenty of comments on here knocking the 2.7 whatever it's wrapped up in....thought it would possibly be helpful to anyone thinking of diving in to Landie ownership to see something positive if the budget didn't stretch to a D4 or a TDV8.

I certainly didn't buy it for economy and have been through a D1V8 and a D2TD5 to get to the RRS so know all about fuel useage. Not much in it between the later (auto) Disco and the RRS but that's where the similarities stop (as of course they should bearing in mind the price difference!).

Highly unlikely. THey will aim for that figure in the official tests, but, as we all know that has little relation to reality.
