Here's a pic of my old Series 2a a couple of years back. It had been hand painted at some time before I bought it and I kinda like the pale green colour. This year I thought I'd repaint it but have no idea what type of paint I should use or what that colour is. Does anyone have a clue to the colour and any advice on the type of paint to buy please?

Go onto the landyzone forums and do a search. They is a great thread I there about hand painting landys.

If memory serves, you want to go for cellulose in satin or gloss. Satin is slightly harder wearing, but you can get a better finish from gloss.

I have just bought some paint from a guy called trade paints on amazon. He is also on eBay. They do lots of LR paints and primers.

I did mine with a mini gloss paint roller from B&Q and some Bronze Green Landrover paint (enamel I think) from eBay.

Looks alright I think from a few yards away!

Seriously, if you get enough paint on you can flat it back to a really good finish

My Series 3 is midway through a makeover using a Tekaloid paint, it's a coach enamel which is ideal for brush painting.

The supplier produced it from a paint code so if you can get hold of a paint chart you can get close to the colour you want. Mine needs a complete paint as it had a clear coat on it that was peeling off, it's been a nightmare to rub down.

Will get some pics but having used agricultural paint on the other Series 3 the coach enamel had given a better finish and been easier to use plus there is an almost unlimited choice of colour.

Will put a link to the supplier when I'm on my laptop not the phone

I was thinking along these lines. What do you think? Have I got it completely wrong?

I'd be inclined to try this, but either will probably be OK

You want nato green. Marcus Glenn does it for about £45 for 5 ltrs. And its not the old IRR stuff that would only last a couple of years at most before turning milky grey. It covers a multitude of sins. For gloss paint on a landrover you need ultra straight panels for it to look a decent job. Even with ripples in the ally work then dark colours are best avoided as they show up everything.

Here is my latest LR painted in Nato green using a high gloss roller. And prep before hand is the key to carrying off a nice job....

Its even stood the test of time on my FSC. Its been painted 7 years with next year due for a repaint......

And even stood up well to a roll over during the summer...

Wings beaten back into shape and a blow over it was as good as new again

That is a top job on the Lightweight, nice Ferret too, ours could do with a repaint soon as it's been wearing the current sand/green colour scheme for about 14 years now. Starting to look a bit rough round the edges but don't they all? Same with Landies, they look wrong if they're too immaculate!

Thankfully got a big compressor and spray gun, whoever sprayed it before obviously made a good job of the prep so it shouldn't take too much time to prep again.

Yep, you're quite right about them looking better when rough around the edges. That's one of the things that drew me to my Landy but it's just gone too far now!

Ferrets will cost a bit now. really rough ones start about £5000. If your really interested in one i know some one that has two fully rebuilt ones for sale. A Mk 1 as in the picture above. And a Mk 2/3 like my one pictured. If you do buy one best to keep hold of it as they are appreciating in value to the tune of about a £1000 a year. A very popular armoured vehicle that also command a big following in the States. Hence where a lot end up when they come up for sale.
