I seem to be drawn towards these and have a itch to go view a 2004 car with around 50k on the clock.

Is this a good idea or will it be worse than my p38 4.0se?

My p38 is worth around 1500 quid the vogue is around 14k is it really worth chopping my p38 in? Are they really worth the extra cash and will it last for years to come with out costing as my as my Cerbera to keep on the road?

Any idea's would be great.

Cheers Scotty

I wanted to ad

Has any one on here ever owned one , If so what are the pit falls? I have had a good search of Google but not too much seems to come back the odd software glitch or Air suspension, Are there any real major common flaws with these cars to look out for?

Going to give the dealer a phone at 9 when he opens it does not seem to have a tow bar fitted so this could be an issue as i imagine they with cost a lot to have fitted due to the complex electrics of these cars. So i guess i can use this to haggle the price a little if it turns out i like it.

You may get a better response on the Land Rover section of the forum.

I asked about this a few months back, and found loads of info there.

What I remember. Gearboxes are a potential weak point.

Yep gearbox, I had one go on me and the original replcement quote was eyewatering!
Eventuall found a second hand box with a torque converter attached at a much more reasonable price. Still not cheap though!

Superb cars, I am on my second but I bought new. Secondhand might scare me to be honest.

Going from the P38 to L322 it will feel at first like you are driving a minibus.

£14k seems very high for a 2004 vehicle.

I think i am put off with these gear box issues ouch i have been reading of a car with a little over 110k on it's 3rd box???? that is shocking. Might open my search up to x5's as well.

My first one did 60k in my ownership. No gearbox problems but the front diff was changed under a recall.

Most (all) will have had the front diff recall done already.

The gearbox is an issue on the TD6, not really on the 4.4 V8 or the newer TDV8.

I don't want to spend much more than around 14k tops i don't want finance or a loan so that wont meet a decent TDv8 and the petrol will be just as bad on fuel as my p38. And if i am spending that kind of cash i need around 20 mpg to be worth spending out on.

Looks like i might just keep the old bus. The more I have looked the more I appreciate what it does well. Park any where don't care about car drives well loads of space will put anything dirty in the back of it and not care. A real hack.

Draw back is the 11mpg ish I get but I don't do many miles a tank a month does me. It does have a few niggles but nothing that stops it driving well.

Il just keep a eye out for a TDv8 in my price range

You'll see 23-25mpg on a TD6. A recon gearbox will be approx £1800 and they tend to start showing at 100k miles or so. If you get a gearbox flush and oil change done on a 50k car, that will help. Lots of info on FullFatRR and here regarding other stuff.

Also check out LPG V8 cars. The gearbox is stronger. There's a nice one (silver HSE) on Autotrader which was mine until last week. I can't link as I'll get told off but it has 82800 miles or so.

It's not an L322, it's a Sport and you'll always wish you bought a proper one. wink

Also, they seem to have forgotten to put the mileage on the ad. nono

Ha ha my Dads mate said the same thing about sports.

I phoned about it, It has done 95k but unsure if it has the same running gear as a L322 or is this the model that is based on a disco?
