Hi,

Just bought a Discovery 1 (3.9 V8i ES model), picking it up on Halloween!

Question is, what is the difference between the Specs (ES, XS etc.)? Mine seems VERY well specced: leather, air con, cruise control, twin electric sunroofs etc.

I think the ES is the top of the range. That's what I was told when I purchased my Mk2. Had all the you have quoted. Thisty but
very comfortable.

Check the chassis next to the cats. Being a V8 there is very little clearance and this affects the metal (something to do with heat cycles). I had to patch both rails on mine, not hard to do more of a hinderance and a pain to get at.
Otherwise enjoy.

There was also an 'ES Premium' which managed to add to the standard ES. Can't remember what with though.

I had one, as well as the above list it had side steps, cd changer under the seat, remote stereo controls, electric adjustment for the seats (heated as well). Not sure if those were the extra bits to make it a Premium.

Loved it. V8 made a great sound, worked well with the auto box, go anywhere feel and a nice place to be. Mine behaved perfectly other than needing a new distributor, sold at 130,000 miles.

I think the Becker sat-nav came on later ones too.

In a D1? That would have been pretty space age in '97/'98! Mine was equipped with a then top of the line Phillips radio/tape combo, even had Dolby if you remember that!

I've just realised the error in my response - I'm referring to Discovery 2, not 1! getmecoat

Mine has the side steps, not sure about CD changer - where would I find it? It does have remote stereo controls I think and cruise control (unless I'm getting that mixed up with the stereo controls?). It doesn't have electric seats nor do I think they are heated. However, I haven't pressed all the buttons as to be honest I hadn't a clue what hardly any of them are for! If you see my profile, you'll probably be able to tell why. paperbag

I love the Rover V8 smile got an MGB GT V8 and owned a number of cars with RV8's under the bonnet. This is the first fuel injected one though.

I did say 'it's got hazards and a heated rear window' ....

Have a look under the passenger seat for the CD changer.

Even found a few pics of my old 'Premium'....

Happy days!

(and before any bright spark spots it, I replaced the Phillips radio with an Alpine unit and put an ipod link in the centre cubby)

Really? Maybe that's why it had plenty of toys.

I was looking for a blue one at the time, then got distracted by a grey one, ended up with green. Car more important than the colour I guess! Moved from the D1 to a D2 which WAS blue in the end though, now got a RRS in 'almost' black but without any Gangsta kit!

I have two Discovery 1 V8 ES7 models -

one from 1995 with an Overfinch stage 2 conversion(chevy V8, bigger brakes, quick steering rack, lowered suspension) which has leather, electric windows and sunroof, aircon, cruise control and not much else.

The other is a 1997 Rover V8 and has all of the toys as above plus electric seats, rear aircon, dual zone front aircon, cd changer, digital clock, heated windscreen and mirrors, twin sunroofs. This is a Japanese-spec car but I think the UK model was the same.

I think they just added stuff as time went along.
