£31k budget - Disco 4 or RR Sport 3.0
Discussion
I'm looking to get into either a Discovery 4 (HSE prefered) or RR Sport 3.0 (again HSE prefered) in a dark exterior colour with light interior (without wood if possible!) ... is this realistic or am I going to be only looking at really high mileage examples (was hoping to be under 40k miles)?
Also, which would you say would be the better option from a resale perspective as we tend to change cars every 12 months or so? The car is for my wife and she likes both and I have to say I do too.
Any thoughts gratefully received!

I wouldn't be concerned about the mileage... At 40k, the car would barely be run-in.
Personally, I'd be looking at a late 3.6 TDV8 RRS. They only produced the 'new' shape, with the TDV8 for a short period of time so my money would be on better residuals when you come to shift it on in 12 mths.

I bought a 59 plate disco 4 with 15k on the clock for a wee bit more than that. Its like brand new inside and out.
Why the light colour interior though? They always end up getting dirty unless you wrap them in plastic and even then grime gets down the side. I looked at a black car with beige interior. Seats were fine as they were leather but carpet and boot were rotten. One pair of muddy shoes and the interior is ruined. I know we have carpets fitted but I just dont understand. Not a criticism, just a genuine wonder?

Well I've gone from Discovery 4 3.0 to Evoque Si4 to RRS 3.0.
The D4 is brilliant; as good as everyone says, no question. However...while a very nice car to be in when cruising motorways and anything off-road, I really didn't like the fact that it wallowed like a drunk penguin around roundabouts and twisty B roads. That, and it was just a little too large for my taste. Just a bit though.
Neither of these criticisms are an issue with many owners and the space is a major plus to most.
I moved to the Evoque because of the way it drives on the road and I don't need the extra off-road ability of the D4. The Evoque certainly drives excellently on the road but eventually proved just slightly too small.
So now I've got a RRS 3.0 SDV6. (MY12). For me, it sits between the D4 and Evoque in practical and actual use terms in that its boot is much larger than the Evoque but same size roughly passenger area, it is as luxurious as the Evoque (true to RR qualities) and it is much better to drive on tarmac than the D4 since it , like the Evoque, has adaptive dynamics to help stabilise it around corners and it can do off-road nearly as well, if not as well, as the D4. So the 'best' LR product in my view for my needs. (The larger RR won't fit in my garage so never a consideration).

If you're only going to keep it for 12 months does it really matter? Buy one now and the other next year. Also, which would you say would be the better option from a resale perspective as we tend to change cars every 12 months or so? As you've probably found, good ones sell quick (trade is snapping them up)
I just bought a 61 plate private (non HSE, in a light colour) :-) 255bhp 8 speed, 10k miles. I thought I gave strong money for it but found when I punched the details into WBAC they offered more than I paid!
My recommendation is perhaps consider an XS and place a wanted ad on disco3.co.uk.
A jan 11, D4, XS with cica 25k miles just sold for less than £30k (light colour again) cracking spec for a XS and only one owner.

I am thinking of getting an Evoque. I only do around 7K miles a year so was thinking petrol. You liked it?The D4 is brilliant; as good as everyone says, no question. I wouldn't change my interior for the world! I don't have to lug any pets around & see this colour as being just a bit more special/opulent to travel in each day. Its been a breeze to keep clean. Why the light colour interior though? They always end up getting dirty unless you wrap them in plastic and even then grime gets down the side. On the other hand, the Land Rover experience day was quite different in their RRS!!
