I ask as I was at a country club recently and spotted this - I swear they weren't out yet, let alone on a 12-plate...

I did also spot a Land Rover "customer impressions" convention going on at the hotel...

That'll be a 'Company' car. wink

Customers don't get theirs for another month or so.

Hmmm. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but the current incarnation isn't a small car.

And yeah, I get that if they don't stop increasing the size with each new version, eventually they'll end up bigger than a country. But isn't the new one like 18mm longer than the outgoing model?

I had the mis-fortune to to drive an Audi Q7 the other day (FFRR currently off the road as a result of a lorry 'not seeing' it passing by whilst my wife was driving it) and it felt like the longest vehicle in the history of the world. I'm sure in reality it's not that much bigger than a FFRR, but still.

I guess if people think the new one is too big, they can vote with their feet and not buy one?

wink

Edited to add:

Parkers says:

Audi (vile) Q7
Length: 5098mm
Width: 1983mm
Height: 1737mm

FFRR (outgoing version)
Length: 4972mm
Width:2192mm
Height:1902

FFRR new HUGE version:
Length: 4999mm
Width:2220mm
Height:1835mm

I understand the dimensions - it just strikes me (esp next to the Seat - a 'Normal car' ) as actually fking huge.

Design can warp our minds - Our LWB Trooper looks a Large car.
It is the same size more or less as the OH's Freelander2.
...and the FL2 is about the same sort of size as the original RaRo & Disco.

a few dealers have them - mostly out of public sight though i'm told Looker Park Royal have one on the forecourt?

been to local dealer this morning - first customer cars for collection in first week of January

apparently a few 'special' customers have pre release cars - quite a few others seen with 'LR' registrations which are 'directors' etc company cars

many car transporters seen in Southampton heading for the docks with the new cars for export - guess China and Middle East?

if i recall correctly the new car is about half a ton(ne) lighter than the L322? (apparently more recycled aluminium is used)

also vastly improved fuel consumption due to the weight reduction and other features

more rear seat leg room as especially in the export market the cars are often chauffeur driven?

420Kg lighter...

Not only does that weight loss improve fuel efficiency but it also increases performance. IIRC the 5.0SC now does the 0-60 sprint in 5.1 seconds!!

...and yes, the back seats are very comfortable. cool

I'm using one just now, 3.0 TDV6 Vogue.

I'll get some photos up shortly but having driven the V6 and V8 diesels back to back i prefer the V6.

I know it will sell in droves. But its fugly. The previous one wasn't much of a looker. This one beats it. Impressive figures and stats being spouted. Lets just hope over time it proves more reliable than previous incarnations.

bloody hell - thats a bit 'rich' from a guy who owns a Hummer? and various other American 'cars'?

one thing it has in droves is 'class' - something american designers fail to understand? - which is why i'd guess 90+% of wealthy americans drive non american cars? - where as in europe 'we' all drive european cars? - eg Porsche/Ferrari/Lamborghini/Range Rover/Rolls Royce/BMW/Mercedes etc etc

would i be wrong in assuming you are american?

the US Secret Service wanted Range Rovers but it was not deemed politically correct so they had to settle on an inferior US vehicle - fact!

I'm specifying one on Friday, would be interested to know why you preferred the V6. Unfortunately they only have a V8 so I can't try them back to back.
The V6 is quieter and i prefer cars without adaptive dynamics.

But isn't adaptive dynamics standard across the range? (At least that's what the website seems to say). And the V8 may not be as quiet but it's hardly noisy and the noise that there is is great.

I don't think anti-roll Dynamic Response is available with the V6.
Adaptive dynamics looks to be standard.

TDV6 definitely doesn't have the active anti-roll.

Ah, yes, the 3.0 has 'adaptive dynamics' but doesn't have 'dynamic response'...

The 3.0 v6 seems to be the most popular choice.
