God wiling, i get it Christmas Eve.
Freelander 2 SD4 HSE, Santorini Black/Black leather. A few minor options as it was a stock car. Privacy glass and a full size spare.
I have some questions, as I get a bit geeky about my cars.
What's the Freeander 2 L number? Like L322 for the FFRR.
What info does anyone have on the gearbox/power train please Its an auto.
Will it have as STD an auxilliary heater? The spec sheet appears to suggest it does. If it does, hw does it work.
They are built in Halewood, but someone tood me they get transpirted elsewhere for quality control.
Is the engine, reoated to the Jag XF 2.2?

- The Freelander 2 went under the code of L359.
- What do you want to know about the power train? Google 'Haldex' and you'll be able to read up on some of it.
- If you have the aux heater, it comes on automatically when you start the engine, provided the temperature is <5C.
- Built in Halewood and AFAIK the Quality control is carried out there too. However, they are then transported down to Gaydon for distribution.
- If anything, the relationship goes the other way. When the TD4/SD4 was first built, the Freelander 2 was the first car to use that engine.

Didn't Land Rover have a Leyland Trucks designation for gearboxes. LTxxx? Do they still have this?
It is the same engine as a Jag then? A mate tells me its actually a PSA derived engine.

Sort of but it depends on the gearbox as they are bought in from different suppliers these days... e.g. The Defender uses the 6spd Ford MT82 gearbox.wildcat45 said:

The TDV6 was developed in conjunction with PSA. I can't remember the specifics of the 4cyl but IIRC it was to be used in other cars within PAG.M
With regard to the chassis' origins, it is built on the Ford EUCD platform, meaning it is indeed related to the Volvo XC60, but not the Kuga (which is based on the Ford C1 platform).

Yep MY13 car. The only thing it doesn't have which I think I will miss are Xennons. I misread the spec sheet, they only come on the HSE Lux model.
Its got a tough act to follow. I am trading in my 18 month old MX-5 in for it. It will actually replace my Mazda CX7, 2.3 petrol, which has been more or less faultless since new 5 years ago. Its worth nowt as PX and as I am quite fond of it, I'm giving it to my FIL.
The Freelander's probably not going off road, but its going to be expexted to commute, be a "best car" dog transporter, tip cart, and undertake a weekly 280 round trip to SW Scotland where its going to live as a country car getting thoughly mucky, and living on top of a beach.
I've always hankered after a Land Rover, and since we got the dog, a 2 seater was never really going to be practical. I would have preferred an XF Sportbrake, but my wife likes SUV type cars. She's landed a new job within walking distance of home, our new home which is near a commuter train station which suits me, so 1 car makes sense.
I fancied spending 40k on a used L322, or a Disco. Access to our off street parking meant both were doable, but tight for a big truck.
The Freelander may prove to be a bit small, that's my only fear, but all the equipment in the HSE I hope will prove a distraction.
I see JE Engineering can get 230BHP out of the SD4. My outgoing CX7 makes something like 258....I guess I'm going to have to accept the loss in power.
I now JE Engineering are a pretty good outfit,with a long LR history. I guess their modifications would invalidate the OEM. Warranty?
