Hi all
Please help, went to start our 2000 dhse today, and all hell broke loose!
all windows ans sunroof opening, petrol flap, and every warning message possible was coming up
horn beeping, headlamps flashing etc etc
What the hell has gone wrong now?
do not know where to start looking, although i am sure that i can hear a clicking, a bit like a relay from under the passenger seat.
Please.....any suggestions would be appreciated

Happy new year all!

Happy new year.

Start with charging the battery or fitting a new one. P38s hate low battery voltage.

If the symptoms still persist then start looking at the BeCM. However, if you haven't had any electrical oddities before that I would bet on the battery causing the problem.

x2

Check the driver's side carpet. If it's wet then water may have got into the BECM. Great place for Land Rover to put it!

Its a new battery [3 months old]
Carpets are dry
Disconnected the battery..... reconnected.....all ok again for now
definately got a problem with it though, this happened before, about 4 months ago, took it to a landrover specialist, and they could not find any fault. Charged me 300 euros for looking at it!! Its been ok since then, until 2 days ago.
found a BeCM specialist at St Albans, shall contact them, when they open again.
The trouble is that I live in S/W France, not really anybody that knows their stuff here.

There is very little LR knowledge in europe outside the main dealer network.

My advice would be to sell your lovely P38 and buy something that is simple and robust but still comfortable like a Discovery 1 or Isuzu Trooper. These older vehicles are much easier to fix and service and would stand you in good stead in your area.

There is a very good garage in Beaumont-de-Lomagne in the Tarn who looks after my mate's old shogun, and his trooper before that.

Chances of him having a fault reader for a P38 are zero, though!

My TD5 Defender did very similar things a few years ago....rear wiper went mental, horn was possessed, sidelights had a mind of their own, all culminating in the car not stopping when the key was turned off. Only was to stop the thing was to stall it, then disconnect the battery.
Eventually traced to a tiddly little short on the near side headlight sending a spurious signal to the BeCU.
Took about three weeks of a Landy electrical specialist looking at it between other jobs.
So, all it needs probably is a couple of wires separating and wrapping in lecky tape. The challenge will be finding them... (sorry)

You could try a good general autoelectrician. This is so odd it sounds like a "general" problem as opposed to a "P38" problem.

Spoke with Rick from Callrova, posting BeCM and engine ECU to him. He seems pretty sure its BeCM fault.
