The chassis is probably original but that's probably it.

Due to the way the Range Rover is put together, it would be very simple to swap a new body in for an old one as pretty much all of the parts are interchangeable.

Very non original car but from the description the paperwork would appear to bear out the changes. These cars are rather like the broom with a new head and two new handles which is still regarded as the old broom.

I really do not know what this is worth but if you are an old RR fan I would think a fair bit. Personally I would prefer a more original car. These cars did rust seriously as I know from owning several. Significant repair work is inevitable. I think the originality in this one has been lost.

I'd be concerned about overall condition as it only says its had new panels, not new body. And the respray could be hiding something...

There's a bit of a roaring trade in old Mini paperwork for pre-1972 cars.

Very simple to make a post 1972 look like a pre-1972 car and avoid any road tax / vehicle excise duty.

Thats got a new body and floor sitting on the 1970 chassis. If there is anything other than the chassis and chassis plate on that thats older than 1985 ill drink the transmission fluid.

4 door shell is very different and not made till 1981

Its a hotchpotch car and a Bitsa. Originality is no more. But I still think it will fetch fair money. Presumably its tax exempt which must help given the daft excise rates now pertaining.

And with the door & bonnet hinges concealed that puts the body panels no earlier than 1989.

ETA Tax for 1989 RRC is £220 for 12 months & £121 for 6.
Standard rates for a car first registered prior to 1.3.2001 with an engine greater than 1549cc. Pay the same rates for mine, a 1986.

Unfortunately if it's checked it would reasonably easy for VOSA to verify if the steering and axles are of the correct vintage. Highly unlikely to keep enough points for the log book IMHO, so it would be down to providing evidence that the work was done sufficiently long ago.

yup. full agrement with Painman and C Lee Farquar on their statements. Big boxes of bits as other posters have mentioned too.

Father had an X reg ('81/'82 ish) that was involved in an RTA back on the early/mid nineties. Car was valued at £5500 and rebuild at £5000. So the car was rebuilt using new chassis, and all new panels around front end. Only thing left original was the bodyshell interior and the rear axle.

It depends how it is done...

If all the various bits were changed over a long period of time, it'll keep its identity. eg Axles changed in 1993, engine & gearbox in '99, body in '07, etc...

However, if you bung them all on at once, then it won't.
