Freelander 2 Tailgate Issue
Discussion
This happened on our Discovery 3 and involved pulling away the trim on the lower half of the split tailgate, followed by lots of hacking at the sheath around the cable that runs to the latch. Once the cable was accessible, I was able to pull on it with long-nosed pliers and open the tailgate. The L-shaped end of the cable that goes into the solenoid had broken and I jerry-rigged a repair until a replacement cable and latch (they are integral) arrived.
Would expect there to be many entries on LR forums regarding your problem if its as common on the Freelander as it is on the D3.
