Sorry
Rear lights !!! ( beer and typing) Let water in check spare wheel well ( lots of electrics near here )
Gearbox on petrols too had mine rebuilt twice !!

think you have been unlucky with gearbox as the 4.4 V8 box is generally considered pretty bullet proofRear lights !!! ( beer and typing) Let water in check spare wheel well ( lots of electrics near here )

but of course there are exceptions to every rule - if you had yours rebuilt twice i'd seriously look to whoever rebuilt your box?
the rear lights/water applies to most of the cars - simple fix on FFRR - drill a small hole - problem solved

Re the gearbox on the petrol there well renowned for eating gearboxes.
Out of the 3 x 4.4 petrols we had all 3 had gearboxes at or around 100-120k
Land rover rebuilt them under warranty as they were less than 3 years old at the time
Had about 15 l322's as a family all have issues just some less than others !

have a look on FFRR forum - the comments would not support your claims?Out of the 3 x 4.4 petrols we had all 3 had gearboxes at or around 100-120k

yes, with the TD6 etc which has a different gearbox to the petrol V8
i'd also question if RR's are so BAD why you and your family have had 15?

First thread I found was this one ?
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=993...
http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic11305.html
There are loads of threads on the full fat site about these boxes !
Not wishing to pic a fight but this is well documented in forums and especially by landrover at the time
We are quite unusual as we have used them for farming / towing and long distance travel ( farms 300 miles apart) wee bought new and used for 2/3 years or 100k, used to run them for 130k but they cost disproportionately more for the extra 30k than buying a new one / lost time / profit for when they were off the road.
New ones have been better but the first 4.4 tdv8 was a Friday car ! Ended up being replaced.
There are loads with gearbox rebuilds : new gearboxes and if I was buying another 4.4 petrol I would buy one with the gearbox rebuilt there's so much choice.
And before the next question why didn't we choose a jeep, land cruiser ? We had both leant to us and at one point had a sponsorship deal with Chrysler but they were dire for what we wanted from them.
Much better value probably and loads cheaper but money wasn't our motivation

and the PH thread was a bit 'short' to say the least?
and now faults with the TDV8?
seeing you get sponsorship deals I wonder why we mere mortals who pay for our cars bother?
or could I politely suggest that your a fantasist?
your finding faults that do not exist - why?

I am merely point out fact trying to help out a fellow pistonheader !!
Crickey i have only been here for about 12 years !!
You'll find a quite comprehensive overview of my previous posts detailing landrover, ranger rover, Ferrari, Porsche, BMW and originally Tvr feedback when it was all fields here !!!
No idea what your issue is here grandcherokee but I would hazard a view that you probably own a 4.4 petrol with c.100k on the clock ? And it's probably had a facelift to make it pretend to be a newer one and will be for sale here soon ?
How far out am I ?
Anyway enough of the childish quips, all range rovers have issues but they have got better with age, we've had the new ones if every model and they all have teething troubles as did TVR, Porsche and Ferrari for that matter.
To the op I would buy one run by an enthusiast fffrr or pistonheads is a great place to start, get one with a box that's done, rear lights that are sealed ( next gt will be telling us there's no issue with water in the spare wheel well !!) a good set of tyres ( about £950 for 4 from memory) and make sure the blend motors work on the air con as there a pig if a job !!
