A colleague has a 2008 RRS TDV8 (year from a guess) & doesn't want to swap it but needs an improvement in mpg due to doing a lot more miles than expected.

Who are recommended for performance/economy and what results are reasonable.

I've had quite a few Diesel BZmW's chipped with superb results so have told him to hang off trading until the PH LR can give us a clue.

Many thanks in advance.

The other option is to just get a cheap 'hack' to pile the miles onto as it's not just the MPG but the extra servicing costs, tyres, etc...

all chipping/re-maps I've seen have really only given 5mpg improvement maximum

as already noted perhaps of more concern is more frequent servicing/tyres/parts etc?

AIUI chipping gives better economy because you can use a higher gear because of improved torque low down, this doesn't work at motorway speeds or if you use the improved acceleration.

Cheers for the responses.

I think 5 mpg is a huge % gain & might be a viable option.

My colleague lives in Thame if there are any local recommendations.

I'm running a Superchips Bluefin on our X5 35d, which sees it easily into high 28's. might send him down this route as its a DIY job.

Thanks again.
