A mate is selling one of these.
It's a 1972 Series 2a with a 2.25 petrol engine.
It's tax exempt, and has a current disc in the window, with a long MOT.
It's in what I would describe as 'fair' order throughout - not pretty, but functional. Chassis seems rot-free, bodywork is reasonably straight, but with a somewhat tatty, kinda 'multi-coloured' finish to the panels. It has a 'hard top' to the rear - i.e. not an open-air vehicle with a canvas tilt. All the glass is in good condition, free from cracks and damage.
Inside is similar to the outside - sort of tidy, but functional - everything in it's place and working, with no rust holes to the floor or anywhere else. The driver's and passenger's seats are different and do not match, but are both functional. To the rear there are two folding longtitudinal 'bench' seats down each side, in good condition.
It starts well, and runs and drives in a manner that I would expect it to - i.e. a million miles away from anything modern, but for the vehicle and it's age, as well as I would probably expect. No misfires or other obvious mechanical grief - engine pulls ok, and the transmission all works as well as I would expect.
Good set of tyres all round, fitted to a set of white steel wheels that appear to be aftermarket, and a little wider than standard. And finally - it has a roof rack and a tow bar fitted to it, plus a set of what he describes as 'parabolic springs' fitted, whatever they are!!!
In short then - it's a reasonably presentable, mechanically decent Landie, with T&T, that can be immediately driven and used by a new owner (potentially me!)
My question is, for those of you that have stuck with me and read my post thus far (thank you
) what would you expect to value / pay for such a vehicle? What is it worth?
My mate has intimated a price to me, but I have done a bit of internet research, and there aren't too many of these for sale, and hence I am none the wiser really. He now has a new off-roader, so I get the impression that he would quite like to off-load it fairly soon, and may be in the market for letting it go for a decent price.
I'm also a student - so if I could secure it for a bargain cost, then that would also be happy days all round!!
Thanks in advance for you help and advice, Landie PH'ers!!

I bought an old series's 11a with a 3.5 rover v8 in it many years ago as a no runner for £500.
It took a lot of work to get it running but not a not of cost.
I ended up learning how to weld properly send replaced the rear half of the chassis and cross member.
After years of tinkering I sold it as I only had space for two cars, in some ways I wish I had kept it, as it was cheap to I sure, and free to tax as a classic!
I would say make him an offer that is below what you can afford, and see where that gets you, he may want to get rid more than you know.
By the way it's a slippery slope, I am on my 10th old ,and rover now, another v8 of course!
Have fun!

Thanks for all your help so far.
Well, it's looking like he would be happy with £1500 - initially I thought this was a bargain, however the £750 S2A above makes me now think twice.
I might offer him a grand and see what happens - that would be a decent price, yes or no?
Go for the grand offer, I suspect he will fold and let you buy it!!Well, it's looking like he would be happy with £1500 - initially I thought this was a bargain, however the £750 S2A above makes me now think twice.
