After market warranty help please.. 2008 Discovery.
Discussion
Mate of mine just bought a 2008 discovery hse (81,000 miles but full land rover main dealer history with no issues) from a local dealer.
He has been offered an extension to 3 years through warranty direct (i think)for £850 and it appears to cover all the majors.
The cynical side of me,and from previous experience leads me to the conclusion that most products offered are not worth the paper they are written on,and everything going wrong gets blamed on "Fair wear and tear".
Has anybody got any suggestions or experience of a decent company ?
He has 7 days to either extend the 3 month warranty to 3 years,or find his own.

If he's just bought it i would try and get the front wishbones and arb bushes all round changed, they tend to go at that mileage.
If you hear a knock over a bump, it's the ball joints, if you brake hard and here a knock it's the bushes on the wishbones.
I don't have a warranty on mine as it's on 109k now, but LR own should be ok. See if they would throw in a good service plan as well.

Thanks A.J.M.
I think the front wishbones have been done as they look very fresh and paint work looks black, but we are waiting on full service (invoice) history to try and find out what exactly its had from Lakeland Land Rover.
When we test drove it,i could not believe how knock and rattle free it was and we tested over various terrains.
Lets hope it stays that way,and it drives very well on the newish General Grabber AT tyres.
Its a nice thing and i am very impressed.

Getting the full history will be great.
If they look new, chances are they are new. About right for that miles.
You can get the EGR valves blanked later this year, pre 07s can be done easily, post 07s have needed some extra work to get it done, product is currently in Beta testing for release later this year.
The AT is a good tyre for them, good off road, in snow but still retains good on road manners.
Future things will be the autobox getting flushed at 100k, best to do the diffs at the same time.
A good remap brings out the best in it, don't run on supermarket diesel.
Oh, and if a bulb blows, fit a GENUINE!! The stories i've heard from cheapo bulbs blowing and sending the various electronic systems in a full on spaz attack is scary. They are cheap from the dealer so don't fit cheap ones.
