Hello all,

Last year I had an intercooler pipe tear and the car produced black smoke on acceleration. I had this fixed at a local independent and after about 20 miles the smoke cleared and the car was back to normal.

Recently I had the same symptoms and took it back to the indy, this time he replaced:

2 top manifold to intercooler rail elbow ends

When I picked up the car he said it may still smoke for up to 500 miles as the oil needed to be cleared from the system. If it was still smoking after that then it was possiby the turbo at fault and he doesn't do them on the V8's.

I have driven it for about 100 miles and I'm still getting the same level of black smoke on hard acceleration. On what I'd call medium acceleration (foot halfway down but gaining good pace) there is no smoke, however when I put my foot to the floor I'm a danger to other road users due to the amount of smoke that appears.

Should I get it booked in at LR for a turbo?

Nope... Get it booked in for diags first! You need to know what is wrong before you start fixing things as it could be something like a MAF Sensor.
