It was sad to see our D4 driven away by it's new owner today. I bought it new in April 2010 to replace our 4 year old D3. As before, I am happy to share the numbers and selling process which may help others.

I usually sell my cars privately as 1, They are kept in exceptional condition and in my view, are too good to sell to a dealer who tars my car with the same brush as any other similar Spec/age/mileage car and I would rather a similar minded private purchaser receives the benefit. 2, I retain more money.

With the above in mind, I advertised on here and Pistonheads and after receiving a bid from my LR dealer of 29K, I set a price of 32,500 (retail approx 34-35K). I received many calls from dealers and their bids ranged from 27.5 - 29K.

Advert:

A dealer by the name of North Staffs Cars (They buy premium cars and sell to the trade) contacted me via my PH Ad and bid 30,750 - 31,000. As I had only 1 private inquiry, I called him back and discussed the condition and he agreed to stand on his bid of 31K as he buys on condition rather than what the book says (2k more than LR dealers). I accepted and the transaction was painless. Driver arrived today, checked my car over, money was transferred, my bank confirmed cleared funds and he drove the car away. They also agreed for me to cash in the RFL and keep all accessories, most of which have sold.

I was prepared to accept 32K in a private sale and therefore, taking everything into account, selling to a dealer has cost me approx 250 quid more than I would have achieved privately.

I paid 47,250 for the car new so it has retained approx 65% of it's value over a 3.5 year period and 31,500 miles.

New 2014 RRS should be arriving in the next 3 weeks.

To be fair, my previous Disco 3 retained a similar residual after 4 years and 41K miles.

Really interested to know your thoughts on the RRS, I am currently in a 2011 D4HSE and thinking about the RRS Dynamic HSE when the lease expires later next year, I have the option to buy for £24k, may do this and sell on privately as mine is well cared for as well. Interested in your signature, my fun car is a 991S, although I don't get enough use out of it and wondered if the RRS could bridge the gap better than something like an RS6?

I just stumbled across this thread whilst surfing pistonheads for anything Range Rover Sport (14)

If I'm not mistaken our girls are in the same class at school, I will look forward to seeing your new Sport on the school run if I'm correct

You are correct, I believe our wife's spoke about this thread today. Feel free to pop round when it arrives if you are interested in taking a closer look. Additional info on www.rrsport.co.uk and www.rrsport2.co.uk

I have a good relationship with the dealer principal, let me know if you would like me to introduce you?

For me, a Large SUV does not provide the driver involvement and fun factor that a 911 or other driver focused cars, offer. They are too heavy and cumbersome. I bought a Cayenne V8 to replace a 911 for similar reasons to the ones you mention. After the honeymoon period wore off, I sold it and after a 12 month fling with an RS4, went back to 911's.

Have you driven the new RRS? I borrowed one from my dealer for the day. Very nice and a huge improvement over the outgoing model. Originally, I ordered a Dynamic however, having driven one, I could not see myself using the Dynamic mode unless it was on track and therefore, I switched my order to a HSE.

I haven't arranged a drive yet, booked in for an RS6 next week so we'll see how that goes. I've only covered 3000 miles in 15 months in my 991 and have come to the conclusion that it just no longer floats my boat (this is my 7th 911), while I still love cars my interests have moved on to the point where I almost 'forget' it's in the garage, as daft as that sounds. I plan a drive of the FF and Sport over the next few weeks, will report my findings but take your point about dynamic, I've done a little off road in my Disco but it's not a priority.
