I have a 1998 p38 diesel Range Rover with a broken accelerator.

It works fine in Park, neutral and in all the low range gears. But does nothing in drive and reverse.

Im really stuck with this one.

Get it plugged in and see what error codes are showing, is it fly by wire?

Don't think there was any fly-by-wire on the P38. Just trying to cast my mind back to my old one. So are you saying that if you go "across the gate" to the LH side, all the low-ratio gears work but not on the RH side? Sounds like it must be something either broken or needing adjustment on the linkage??

What part of it is FBW? I had a 2001 4.6 Vogue, I distinctly recall big fat throttle cables and a chunky manual gear selector. *May* have been some electronics under the selector but I'm not sure.

That said, the BECM does control a multitude of (occasionally unlikely) items and is given to playing up so maybe that's what they mean.

The diesel BMW engine is fly by wire, no intake throttle to open up in a diesel.

Ah, I stand corrected then, wasn't aware of that!
