Yesterday I took up the opportunity of the complimentary (normally £250!) half day experience at LR Experience Dunkeld given to me when I bought my FL2. Perfect conditions, a dry crisp misty Scottish morning after a week of rain, so good visibility but lots of ice, puddles, wet grass and muddy terrain.

You get to choose your vehicle, it HAD to be the Defender and ours was a 63 plate 110 XS with a mere 1000 miles on the clock. The location is spectacular, a log cabin on the banks of the gorgeous Butterstone Loch, and our instructor Jill a very experienced LR instructor, biker and enthusiast, owning 5 or 6 LRs of various types herself - the girl knows her stuff and her mechanical knowledge put me to shame!

The drive was excellent, informative and demonstrated just how capable these machines are if you know how to use them. We experienced slow 45 degree descents down slippy slopes with water hazards at the bottom and trees to negotiate past on the way, using engine braking to full effect, 45 degree climbs where all you can see is sky, cross-axle situations using the TC to crawl out, and just how diff locks and low range make such a huge difference between these beasts and your average road-going soft roader (though the little FL2 accompanying us was doing well). I've got the bug now, this could get expensive....
