Looking for a Series 2 or earlier
Discussion
Hello all.
Can any of you learned Gentlemen point me in the direction of a nice Series Land Rover please?
Not looking to spend a fortune, and no MOT isn't really an issue. I don't want a complete basket case, turning into a 3 year restoration, but I don't mind a Work in Progress, either!
The absolute dream is to buy an entirely original, one owner job from an Estate.
I'd prefer as original as possible
Also, kind of interested in an early-ish Classic, V8 manual.
I think I'm asking too much! Lol.
Thanks in advance, Stuart.

Any reason for S2 or earlier?
S3's can often be found a little cheaper as many don't have the attraction of being tax exempt. However, they do has such mod cons as synchro mesh on all gears and alternator instead of dynamo charging. S3's, apart from some early vehicles, are fitted with the 5 bearing engine, rather than the 3 beariing found in the older trucks. The 5 beariing engine is quite a bit more robust.
Having said all that, I'd love a S2 or early S2a to have the headlights in the grill, rather than on the wings.

It's all about the headlights for me.
Road tax exempt is a nice perk, out of principal more so than fiscal.
Interesting to know about the difference in the charging circuit.
I have noticed series 3 being much keener priced compared with older examples.
Thanks for the reply.
The headlights are great in the grill! My S3 is great, but it does lack that really classic look.
Apparently, the dynamo is a bit of a PITA, as you can run any two of lights, heater and wipers and still charge the battery, but not all three at once + charge the battery! They are also, obviously not great at charging in slow moving traffic. If it were me, I'd be tempted to retrofit an alternator for convenience purposes.
Have you had a look on landyzone.co.uk? There are some very knowledgable guys on there

I'll have a look on Landyzone, thanks for the pointer.
The only Series 3 which has made reconsider my approach is
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-SERIES-3-TAX-...
But if I buy a Land Rover, I was looking at Disco 2, then 1, then Classics (never P38) and then I thought, if I am going to bother, I'll go to grassroots and do it properly.
So I'm looking for a special feature; 1 or 2 owner/entirely original etc etc.

That looks nice. Those seats would push you hellishly close to the steering wheel, though, I would imagine. You can cut the bulkhead away (and strengthen across the bottom) to get a better recline.
It looks like a good resto job. Be interesting to see if they've done anything to the chassis as well...

From the advert, i believe the original seats are included in the sale. It looks like a good resto job. Be interesting to see if they've done anything to the chassis as well...
I've sent him a message anyway.
He specifies an amount of work done to the rear of the chassis by himself.
You'd have to say he's had the body painted, too.

Nice Series 11, had an overdrive at some point but nice vehicle, does it run ? 2 ltr petrol as well.
I'm confused a little by this post (easily done!) Is the one you're potentially selling a series 2 that's had O/D fitted, nice Landie and a petrol?
I don't quite follow the. "Does it run?" Question, though?
Thanks, Stuart.

Yes 2 litre petrol, yes it runs fine, few little jobs left to do.
It should appear in one of the landy mags soon.
I'll make a decision on keeping it over Xmas and get in touch
with people who have shown an interest should I decide to sell.
Thanks very much, I'll look forward to hearing from you.It should appear in one of the landy mags soon.

I have access to series 2 chassis number 7 - 1959
Has recon turner engine, rock-solid chassis, and no corrosion - original paint - needs repaint and new interior to make perfect.
Everything works and has just passed MOT - although not needed - more as peace of mind than anything.
PM me if you are interested

Mines in this months Land rover owners mag if you want to have a look.
I've got LRM I believe, is it in a different one? I've been put back a couple of months as I am now unemployed (got a job interview on Thursday, so fingers crossed).
Going to pick up a 2 owner Disco 1 200tdi on Saturday.
Once I've sold my Audi I'll be actively looking to purchase again.
Stuart.
