Hi everyone,

Hope someone can help...just picked up a brand new Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8, which i do absolutely love smile but slightly concerned by a strong smell that is coming through the vents, it is not there permanently but it comes randomly when driving...

I have spoken to range rover who have said it is completely normal and their explanation is that it is an Electric pre heater which sits under the engine and heats the engine especially on colder days. They said the smell will go but cannot give me a time frame for this!!

however I am not buying this explanation as I can still smell it at different times when driving after long periods and when the engine is warm, and although I never had a range rover before I have never experienced anything like this with any other cars.

Would really appreciate some advice, has anyone had the same thing happen with their range rovers?

Thanks

what sort of smell?

On our D3 we had 'steam' 'smoke' from uder the car and a slight warm cooking smell (not burning) inside the car but that was only on start ups on very cold days - was told it was a pre-heater whenw e called the assist out but soon went when the car was driven and never after using the car when warmed up.

It could quite simply be a tonne of AutoGlym burning off, where it has been polished to within an inch of its life before you bought it!!!

I went back to the dealership and they have disconnected the pre heater, yet I can still smell fumes at different times when driving.

Best way to describe it is to say that the smell I keep getting whilst driving smells the same as the smell from the front grill when I get out of the car (a diesel fine engine smell). Has anyone else had anything like this??

Of course land rover said it must be the pre heater but since they disconnected it a few days ago I still have the smell...

Any advice would be appreciated....

disconnecting it is an interesting was of fixing it (if it is the heater) or has this been done to aid diagnosing the problem?

Probably to diagnose. Do you think it may be the exhaust header paint just burning in. Smelt this quite a lot on new cars/bikes and it does smell of diesel burning.
