Looking at the prices of old ones these cars seem to attract very good second hand prices irrelevant of age. Any thought on how a new one compares after a years use and say 4/5K on the clock?

Values are far more dependent on condition and spec than age or miles.

I sold a 93 200tdi CSW with 200k on it a few years back on eBay and had 103 bids on it! 43 watchers. I made a tonne of money on that one and a chap came 450 miles for it!

I've got a very, very basic, tatty but sound 110 van for sale just now that I can't shift. 2.5 petrol and a years MOT but nobody wants a petrol non-v8 van. If it was a tdi it would be worth 3k instead of £1500 frown

Was possibly thinking of a brand new one. I drive a defender at work and have this erge to own one as a second vehicle. My worries are if I don't get on with it how much is it likely to cost me after a year or so?

Bearing in mind production is due to cease next year, it all depends on what people think of the Defender's replacement.

If they don't like it then residuals should stay firm. If they do, then they'll potentially lose quite a bit.

And of course, how wisely you spec it and how hard you haggle in the first place will also have a bearing on things.

I sat in a new jeep wrangler yesterday and i do love them, from looking at the pictures of the new defender I think this is the route the defender will go.
