light goods vehicle vs diesel car?

Didn't get much of an answer when querying this on the gassing section, hoping you may be able to help?

What is the difference between a light goods vehicle versus a diesel car? We have a 7 seat (XS) Defender now, glass windows all round, but the taxation class is "Light Goods Vehicle". What does it mean, is there anything else we need to be aware of?

Not sure if there is anything to be aware of as the classification for a car was always "PLG"... i.e. "Private, Light Goods".
