Considering replacing the 275/40/20 tyres on my '07 Sport for 275/45/20 to help improve the ride. What would the implications be?

We have many customers with RRS's who go this route to get a better ride, think it will make your speedo read about spot on as most speedo's seem "tuned up" if you know what I mean.

What tyres had you in mind ?

I can't say I'm surprised, the ride isn't as supple as I had originally expected. At the price point and for the spec I think these might be hard to beat: http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?show=111696

Lots of Sport owners are going with the General GT 275/45x20, very nice comfortable tyre.

I know someone who could help you smile but I always say buy local if you can as most times your local tyre shops should be able to match or get very close with a fully fitted price.

Mail order is not always the best route when you factor it all in.

Always best to get a good relationship with your local guys so long as they play ball on prices.

Thanks for the advice although I throw lots of work at a friend so he doesn't charge me for little jobs here and there.
I only need a pair at the moment but I assume the diff won't like having different profiles between axles, is that correct?

Thanks for that other link, I'll be buying from there for sure!

thumbup

Word of warning though, Tyreleader's prices go up and down all the time. Also, whilst the tyres get to the UK very quickly the UK courier can be slow. Whilst some people have had very speedy service, I'd allow 5 days and treat anything less as a bonus.

Don't mix different types of tyres i.e winters on one axle, AT's on the other etc. But not a problem with the same tyre type. Fit the new tyres on the rear axle though. Best to have the most grip/traction on the rear. Understeer in a RRS is easier to handle than oversteer smile

If you're changing tyre sizes from the o/e specification, your insurance co. may well consider it to be a modification and you should inform them first. Sounds a bit Victor Meldrew(ish) I know, but better safe than sorry!

Should of added that I'd not be comfortable having different size tyres on one axle. The suspension should sort it out, as it does when a smaller space saver is fitted, but I don't know anyone that has mixed sizes on an air suspended LR.

If it were me, I'd buy four new tyres and sell the used ones. People buy them to use as a spare.

You don't want to mix tyre sizes front to rear, my professional advice would be to fit four of the same size.

Cheapest it not always the best.

Some internet sellers could not give two hoots once they have your money.

Always best if you can to purchase your tyres from an independent tyre dealer and they should give better service.
